STATEMENT FROM CHICAGO BEARS CHAIRMAN GEORGE H. MCCASKEY AND PRESIDENT & CEO KEVIN WARREN
Yesterday, the Chicago Bears Board of Directors met and voted to advance our stadium development project in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact site to be selected. We believe a world-class stadium project in Hammond will transform the region, connecting Northwest Indiana to the South Side of Chicago through the Loop and across neighborhoods and suburbs stretching north of the city. It will bring Chicagoland together and deliver new opportunities to its residents and businesses.

Da Hoosiers
Like the Indy 500- i hope they sing “Back Home Again in Indiana” before each game....
Here’s what the conversation might be:
Mayor Johnson: Can’t we tax them on the way out?
Governor Pritzker: We really should look into that.
Idiots.
Chicago tax increase will be needed!
ALL: Freepathon needs a huge increase.
That was already decided a while back, that they won’t be in the city limits of Chicago. The only question now,is whether they would be in an Illinois suburb of Chicago, or an Indiana suburb of Chicago.
Does it matter to anyone if they are in an Indiana suburb rather than an Illinois suburb?
I support the move away from the pathetic politics of Illinois, but Hammond sucks.
Chicago may join New York City as one of the major American Cities to lose not one, but two NFL teams.
The first team to pack up and leave was the Chicago Cardinals. This team left in 1960.
No federal judge is going to enjoin the move? Just wait and see. I guarantee it’s going to happen.
Hammond is right along the south shore line commuter rail from downtown chicago. I presume they’ll create a stadium stop.
So are you saying that teams are supposed to play in the city limits of the city they represent? Nunerous teams play in suburban locations. Are you trying to say it is bad if teams are not inside the city limits of their city?
If Chicago is a sewer, Hammond is where it empties out.
He didn’t say that. Why did you read that into his statement?
Yep. If the Bears board actually think that building a stadium there will spark a beautification and resurgence of that area they should talk to the White Sox.
The team has been in Chicago since 1921. If you cannot fathom or understand what losing a long term franchise is like to civic pride, I cannot help you.
Hammond, Indiana is not a Chicago suburb. It is a regional city in a neighboring state.
There is going to be political fall out as well.

I was responding to this comment. He is saying how Chicago could have a history of losing 2 NFL teams. He is saying New York City has such a history. While technically correct, both the Giants and Jets are still in the New York metropolitan area. The Bears moving to Northwest Indiana would still see them in the Chicago metropolitan area.
So based on that, it sounded like he is implying it is a negative development, if a team is not inside the city limits of the city they represent. New York City lost 2 NFL teams but the New York metropolitan area did not lose any teams with their playing in a New Jersey suburb.
Wow!
Perfectly stated.👍
I don’t see where the poster said or implied that.
I believe it was just observation.
The actual move may not happen immediately. The team still has a stadium lease with the Chicago Park District for Soldier Field. Once that expires, the Bears will be free to move. My instinct is that the team will probably not pay to leave Soldier Field before the current lease expires.
Many of the comments have focused on sports economics, but there is a political dimension to this as well. Johnson and Pritzker look like incompetent bumblers. I expect Johnson will not be reelected in 2027. Pritzker seems likely to gain a third term, but his presidential prospects are going to take a serious hit. With thousands of Illinois residents fleeing the state and many business corporations following suit, losing the Bears will damage Pritzker to a degree.
