CPRC: Murders Committed With “Glock Switches” Are Very Rare

Murders committed with handguns patterned after the extremely successful Glock line of pistols, equipped with “Glock switches”, are extremely rare, according to research done by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC). The research was published on May 27, 2026.

No database of cases where “Glock switches” are used to murder people is maintained by the federal government. The CPRC did what they characterize as “an exhaustive search” for incidents where such a “Glock switch” was used to murder people, from 2021 through most of May, 2026.  They found 20 incidents where 43 people were killed over the more than five years studied.

Every murder is a tragedy. However, the number of murders committed with “Glock switches” is a tiny blip in the overall number of murders in the USA, over the five years examined by the CPRC.

The CPRC carefully and correctly states they may have missed some murders committed with “Glock switches”. It is the nature of crime that some go undetected. It is the nature of the media that some events are not reported in a way that is easily found. The demonization of these devices works to ensure most known events are reported.

Handguns do not make good automatic weapons. They are more difficult to master than rifles or shotguns, even when one shot is fired for every trigger pull. They are much more difficult to control on full auto, especially a full auto with a high cyclic rate of fire. With practice, expert users can use them effectively. Machine pistols, as they are called, have not been a popular item with military services because of these limitations.

Full auto pistols are difficult to control and use well. In the hands of amateurs, they make the pistol less effective.

I imagine they kill more birds than they do people. As soon as the first round is fired, that barrel is rising until it’s probably straight up in the air.

Unless the shooter is holding the firearm sideways, like they are in a video game. Then it just sprays all over the place. LOL

If they do find any murders with a Glock Switch, they will find it was stolen and used by a person who could not legally own a handgun and has a known gang/drug cartel affiliation.

In Memphis they are everywhere. The fun part is when a pistol being used as a machine gun overheats and blows apart in the hands of the hood rat.

I lived in a new city. So the first mayor and council had to stand up a PD from scratch.

Mayor and councilman charged with overseeing the PD being stood up went over to Glock USA in Smyrna. They ended up settling on the Glock 21 for a variety of good reasons, and I think it was a good choice.

While at the range, the Glock rep asks “Is there anything else you’d like to shoot?” after they had tried a few things. The councilman (former mil, knows his way around firearms, has a bigger armory than almost everyone here) says “Do you have an 18 handy?”

He shoots it, then the mayor tries it out, and promptly puts a few rounds in the range ceiling. Mayor is very apologetic.

Glock rep turns up the range lights, points to a ton of holes in the ceiling. “Most of those were put there by trained police officers.”

LOL

They attach modified 50 round clips and fire away and repeat. The guns are not designed to take that amount of heat and pressure.

Great anecdote.

Freerepublic is a wonderful place, in part, because of stories such as yours.

Years ago I read (Guns 'N Ammo) a column by Jeff Cooper. He had a meeting with some South American dignitary who's armed guards carried Mac 10s. Colonel Cooper carried the 1911 and competed with the guards to see which was more effective.

The Macs certainly put more bullets down range but Colonel Cooper was impressively fast with all his bullets hitting the target. The guards shots were all over the place. The dignitary had his guards start carrying 1911s with Colonel Cooper teaching them how to shoot.

Too bad there is no way to track what happens to the gangster thugs who are caught with guns with illegal switches. How many are charged for that federal felony (or a state felony), how many are convicted, how many sentenced to prison and for how long?

Oh, did I say gangster thugs? I meant DemocRat pet thugs.

“Is there anything else you’d like to shoot?”

Wrong thing to ask me. Oh, he meant firearms to shoot with.

My bad.

I’ve never shot one. My son in law is a State Trooper. They had them at the academy where they have to go for annual qualification. He shot one and said it was useless, except it make a lot of noise.

Last week I had an occasional to view a film of Glock switches. (Puerto Rico).

A one-minute video outside a 7-11 store accounted for about 6-8 dead in one driveby shooting. The exchanges went back and forth until it got quiet. The attackers won.

Scary!

"Full auto pistols are difficult to control and use well. In the hands of amateurs, they make the pistol less effective."

Concur. I used to shoot full auto submachineguns. If I did not shoot them regularly, I wasted most of my ammo. It is a perishable skill.

As I recall, Col. Jeff Cooper of shooting fame said he would rather have an opponent armed with a submachine gun than a rusty Mauser. The opponent with a rusty Mauser (rifle) would know he had to aim.
