Sunday night’s episode of The Weekend: Primetime on MS NOW launched a predictable attack on Nebraska’s new Medicaid work requirements.
Equally predictable was the "expert" MS NOW chose: NYU professor Sherry Glied — a former top Obama HHS official deeply involved in rolling out Obamacare. Glied spent most of the segment warning about coverage losses and hardship.
Only toward the end did Glied let the liberal cat out of the bag: “It’s not a great idea, in my opinion, to have work requirements for anything.”

They always look the same.
Open borders. No voter ID. No work requirements for any welfare program. No prosecution of serious crimes.
Utopia, liberal-Democrat style.
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
NYU “PERFESER” is just another way of saying she couldn’t get a job anywhere else.
Pernty-headed perfesser :-)
Well, to be fair to the Deep Stater, work requirements for Medicare/Medicaid dual eligibles is a bit unrenable, eh?
But note that she’s not advocating for limiting the abuse of spending down and assest stashing to qualify for Medicaid when you’re a geezer.
That latter I would definitely support.
...a bit unreasonable...
Why do I think “Berkeley PHd in basket weaving”?
Those able-bodied and able-of-mind persons on welfare programs should be willing to:
1. work a reasonable amount of hours (not necessarily fulltime)
2. do some useful volunteer work, or
3. pursue a meaningful workforce training certificate, program at their local community college or other legitimate provider — in something that will make them employable NOT basket-weaving or Homosexual Liberation in 9th Century Persia from a Marxist Perspective.
in other words, if they are genuinely able... to get off their duffs and do something useful for a change.
then there are those with genuine medical or physical or mental limitations or problems that preclude them from pursuing any of the above. These people (not malingerers) I am willing to pay taxes to help more (they usually need some sort of nursing or personal assistance, meals preparation, food deliveries, assisted transport or mobility provisions, and a lot more .. expenses that may not be covered by their welfare. I’d like to see these persons with genuine disabilities or limitations provided more help, support. Not less.
the above as a total package would save Zillions of taxpayer dineros and be a whole lot less dysfuctional for everyone including “society,” too.
She must be the Neanderthalette that says the black epidermis tribe members should get millions of taxpayer dollars as reparations for never picking cotton. It’s weird you can be a “college” knuckledragger “perfeser” with a single digit I.Q.
This cow should be hiding her head in shame, and or hunted down and publicly ridiculed at every step.
Only in Obamaland can you be a complete and utter failure on policy and implementation and remain comfortably ensconced in your Higher Ed sinecure.
One World Order Globalist.
Disgusting in every way.
Born in Canada?
Maybe that’s why . . .
“in other words, if they are genuinely able...”
Very, very, very few are truly unable to work or pursue gainful employment of some kind.
And don’t tell me about you and your unique condition cuz “but, but, but it’s different for me” shiiite.
Blind folks work.
Folks with no legs work.
Morbidly Obese people work.
Folks living with Downs Syndrome work.
People with Terminal Cancer still work (Scott Adams worked until the day he died).
Also - “I’d like to see these persons with genuine disabilities or limitations provided more help, support. Not less.” YES!!
Can you make enough to live on vs being a Social Services Payment sponge?
That’s a different question that starts a whole different conversation about public/private support for indigent/nearly indigent Citizens.
There is even the very worthwhile option of having “disabled” folks get paid to care for other disabled folks. Meal Prep, house cleaning, laundry, child care, . . .
Lots of basic stuff can grow into that Virtual Cycle.
Gary Mule Deer has really let himself go.
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in years.
Canadian-American with a university appointment and an attorney husband. Bless her little heart.
Husband?
Better idea - ZERO to anyone.
The welfare state is a crime.
Just give everyone free stuff with zero requirements and zero responsibility! You’re racist and ableist if you think anything else.
I don’t like workin’. I don’ wanna work. But I need stuff. So gibsmedat!
