In 2004, an hour-long documentary was released telling the exhilarating and inspirational true story of the man we know of today as “St. Patrick”. This production starred two prominent Irish actors; Liam Neeson and Gabriel Byrne, both telling the story of Patrick, as well as assembling a team of Irish historians who retell the political, cultural, and spiritual climate of 5th century Ireland, so that you feel the drama of the times, the events, and how God oversaw the direction of the life of the man whose story inspired a holiday to be set aside to recognize it.
The Story:
Patrick was born in 397 A.D. in the village of Bannavem Taburniae, which was a colony in Roman occupied Britain. His father was both a Roman nobleman and a minister. Christianity was at that point (on account of Emperor Constantine) the official religion of the Roman Empire. Despite his privileged background, and talk of God surrounding him, Patrick grew up care-free and comfortable, focusing more attention on the perks of life and having a good time with his friends.
