Story of St Patrick ‘a reminder of the courage of migrants’ – Irish president

Catherine Connolly used her first St Patrick’s Day message to celebrate migrants and warn against the “normalisation of war” ahead of Irish premier Micheal Martin’s meeting with Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday.

A week ago she criticised the “deliberate assaults on international law” in the Middle East and said the UN charter “cannot be ignored”.

While not naming the US or Israel explicitly, this was seen as a rebuke of the Irish government after ministers avoided stating that the bombing campaign on Iran broke international law.

In her St Patrick’s Day message on Monday, Ms Connolly said the young man who would become Saint Patrick was trafficked across the Irish Sea from Britain in the fifth century.

She said he later returned to Ireland as a missionary, “giving voice and his life to fostering an awareness of the consequences of slavery”.

“The story of Patrick’s life serves as a reminder of the resilience and courage of migrants, the invaluable contributions that they have made, and continue to make, to the countries they now call home, sometimes even in the face of great adversity,” she said.

“Patrick’s story speaks not only to the Ireland of the 5th century, but to the millions still subjected to trafficking, forced labour and displacement today.

“As we recall the life of Patrick, we invoke his spirit and acknowledge our shared responsibilities as global citizens.

“We stand in solidarity with those who find themselves in vulnerable and dangerous circumstances.

“Patrick’s story invites us to respond with hospitality and kindness to those suffering the consequences of war and displacement, those fleeing their countries because of persecution or violence.

“The normalisation of war can never be accepted. Now, more than ever, we must renew our commitment to peace and diplomacy in line with the principles of international law as set out in the United Nations charter.”

She emphasised Ireland’s position as a neutral country and a post-colonial society, meant it can offer “a valuable perspective on the challenges facing our world”.

We aren’t dealing with “migrants”. They are illegal invaders.

Back in the day, our migrants were European. I have no problem with that. It’s the Aztecs and the Chinese and all the rest that change the character of the place. America is basically the slums from the movie ,”Blade Runner,” now. Edward James Olmos can teach us all calculus.

Connolly emphasized Ireland’s position as a neutral country.

Ireland was content allowing millions of allied soldiers and civilians to be wounded or killed, while it stood 'neutral.' So much for 'the fighting Irish'.

Her conflating St. Patrick's life with mass migration is something you'd expect from a woke, liberal politician. It's convenient for politicians like Ms. Connolly, who have the benefit of national police and security protection, to lecture the average Irishman and world about our duty to receive illegals into our communities while they live in protected enclaves.

It is my understanding that Ireland has a housing shortage.

The last thing it needs is migrants.

There is an episode of “The Crown” that shows some very upset Irish. I believe it’s the one where Mountbatten is blown up in a boat.

Pigs like this will always try and pervert religion to try and convince people and themselves that what they are doing is right. Hope she burns in hell.

Just wow. On today of all days. The people of Ireland didn't "allow" anything. They weren't going to die to aid the enemy that had been at their throats for centuries.

The Allies were willing to liberate countries from German occupation but not willing to liberate Ireland from British occupation.

It needs to be understood that the world is mainly leftist.

Republicans got elected because they typically ran things better.

Iran supplies money and harmful stuff to Hezbollah.

Hezbollah attacks Israel.

Israel has the legal right to take military action against Iran. The US has the legal right to militarily help out.

“global citizens”

My father was mainly of Irish stock.

Ireland would not allow me to take up residence, but it would welcome a guy from Ghana.

Ireland is being run by leftist idiots.

“the United Nations charter”

It was written shortly before the atomic bomb became reality.

Law must be adjusted to reality.

Despite the words of Amendment II, a crazy man would not be allowed to walk the streets of Capitol Hill in Washington, DC bearing a submachine gun and shouting Death to Democrats.

Iran is being red-flagged.

St. Patrick wasn’t an ‘immigrant’... He was a slave captured by an Irish raiding party and brought back to Ireland to tend to the farming, while they got drunk and raided some more.

PS. Paleontology studies have determined that were never, ever any snakes in Ireland. Period!

The afrocentrists are already claiming Brian Boru was a black African and the first Irish were all black. Connelly absolutely hates Ireland and whites and the self hating Irish elected her. It is depressing how fast all things white and Christian has decided to commit mass cultural suicide for third world savage trash. The only thing to save these nations is to burn all the colleges.

Ireland was very supportive of Palestinian and Arab terrorists back in the 70’s. Looks like they still are.
