Following the rollback of the Artemis II SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft on Wednesday, Feb. 25, experts will discuss the work ahead for the Artemis II test flight around the Moon and provide broader updates on the Artemis campaign.

NASA participants include:Administrator Jared Isaacman
Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya
Lori Glaze, acting associate administrator for NASA's Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate
BTW, it needs to be said, Will Robinson-Smith of Space.com has the best possible name for a space journalist.
NASA needs to hire back a bunch of “Old White Guys”
I wonder why SpaceX doesn’t have problems handling liquid hydrogen fuel.
Just kidding. I know the reason. I know the superior specific impulse of hydrogen, the challenges handling the stuff, and how Congress instructed NASA to re-use the Shuttle technology as much as possible. But SpaceX was free to ignore Congressional meddling.
Maybe they will just announce the existing moon base and hyperspace craft that we’ve had since 1947 and move on. //sarcasm
This news is actually REALLY good. They’ve pulled back all of the existing goals and went back to the drawing board. They refactored the project plan to focus completely on the moon with Boeing, Blue Origin, and SpaceX all buying in. They’re doing it the RIGHT way.
What Isaacman’s done in 2 months is monumental. This actually has a chance to work, unlike the last 20 years of NASA dreamcrafting.
“Congress instructed NASA to re-use the Shuttle technology as much as possible.”
Such a stupid requirement on so many levels.
Still does not change nor even contradict my opinion. NASA needs more “Old White Guys.”
Artemis updates! Space X updates! Even the JWST findings are occasionally significant.
I am living in a forward-looking time.
“What Isaacman’s done in 2 months is monumental.”
Yeah, we should have had him last April. Susie Wiles and Bessent blackballed him to get even with Elon for doing well and getting too much attention. Thank god Trump woke up on this.
SpaceX mostly handles LOX, RP-1, and liquid methane.
The red flag to in this presentation is the institutional approach — more gubmint employees. Maybe I’m just jaded, but this appears to be a way of bringing all the pork barrel beneficiaries in-house, as ULA et al get their project plugs pulled.
Because it looks to me like that’s what’s going to happen.
A good many of those private company employees (all of whom were hired to fulfill various gov’t contracts) will be hired into NASA. Does anyone seriously expect that to speed things up?
Maybe it does pertain, as Jared said a number of times, to poor launch cadence, but the Artemis vehicles appear to be second rate junk and doomed. I don’t think Artemis II should be flown around the Moon with a crew aboard.
There was a cryptic reference in the vid about testing rendezvous and docking with various lunar landers, but done in Earth orbit.
I do think Jared’s the best choice to run NASA, and is doing the best possible job, given the DEI / muzzie outreach wreck the organization was turned into.
Disney hasn’t been Disney in a generation.
Oh no! The ridiculous Daily Fail, er, Mail story about NASA dragging its feet because of the ancient alien city on the Moon got pulled! 🌛
One big difference between the 1960s and now is, Von Braun was around, and just generally, the aerospace and tech engineers had very ground-up training and the immediately prior generation had experience in developing brand new systems and getting them operational during short timelines during a war.
Most of the Apollo-era engineers were in their 20s and 30s, the astronauts were experienced flyers for the most part, in their 30s and 40s, and the administrators ran the gamut from perhaps late 20s all the way up into their late 50s.
And everyone smoke cigarettes and cigars, and drank hard liquor and black coffee, and a good many of them chased skirts. Wait, what?
They were good at focusing on all their jobs.
Like I said a bunch of Old White Guys, but I concede also include some young eager white guys as well.
Thanks for making my point :)
Don’t forget the buzz cuts, white shirts, ties and jackets.
My wild guess is, SpaceX will launch something to Mars sometime during the year. It may not be landing, but it may drop a payload consisting of an autonomous tech package that does nothing but process methane fuel out of what’s around, a proof of concept to be tested and scaled up.
Blue Origin is nothing but a rich man’s toy.
