The Florida state House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday afternoon that seeks to rename the Palm Beach County International Airport after President Donald Trump as a companion bill makes its way through the state Senate.
The legislation passed the Republican-led House in an 81-30 split, according to the Florida Phoenix. The renaming effort, if passed by both chambers and signed by Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis, could cost as much as $5.5 million.
Republicans in the state's lower chamber said the renaming is to honor Trump's impact on Palm Beach, which has gained prominence because it's the location of the president's Mar-a-Lago resort.
“Forty years ago, Donald Trump came to Palm Beach County when it was a sleepy little beach town and he bought a defunct property that today serves as the winter White House as a symbol of the power of the United States, which has made Palm Beach one of the most desirable and important locations in the world,” Republican state Rep. John Snyder said.
The Palm Beach County’s department of airports confirmed that renaming the airport after the president would cost $5.5 million because of the cost of designing and producing replacement signs, rebranding equipment, uniform, consumables and promotional items, and various tech and system updates.
The funds for the renaming effort would come from airport revenue unless funding is otherwise designated in one of the two state bills.

The Trump family company has filed to trademark the use of the president’s name on airports but says it doesn’t plan on charging a fee — at least for a proposed renaming of one near his Florida home.
Applications filed by the Trump Organization with the federal trademark office are seeking exclusive rights to use the president’s name on airports and dozens of related things found there, from buses shuttling passengers to umbrellas and travel bags to flight suits. The filings come amid debate in Florida over a state bill to name the Palm Beach airport after Trump and a dispute over funding of a tunnel between New York and New Jersey that is tied up with proposals that both it and Dulles International Airport in Virginia bear his name.
The Trump Organization said that the applications were triggered by the Florida bill and that it didn’t seek any profit — only protection against “bad actors” given that the Trump name is the “most infringed trademark in the world.”

It was owned by actress Dina Merrill (Marjorie M. Post’s daughter) and her actor husband Cliff Robertson. They were the ones that gave it to Palm Beach County.

Airports make money hand over fist that has to be used with in the airport infrastructure. $5.5 million is chump change to them.
In 2024 Palm Beach Airport took in $135,804,101 (inc. $8,059,007 in ARPA funding) and spent $94,533,081. Never let an airport management agecy tell you they are losing money. They do better than the casinos.

Glad to hear he has to much time and money to spend. Costs a lot more to get to Dulles and probalby an hour of travel time.
Estimated taxi fare from Dulles to DC: $65 to $70.
