Brodie played for the 49ers from 1957-73 after breaking every major passing record at Stanford. He later played on what is now the PGA Tour Champions and won the 1991 Security Pacific Senior Classic.

Brodie's 17 seasons are still a 49ers franchise record, and his 31,548 yards passing rank second to Joe Montana on San Francisco's career passing list. When Brodie retired after the 1973 season, he trailed only Johnny Unitas and Fran Tarkenton on the NFL's career yards passing list.

The only two I remember from that team (via Topps) were John David Crow and Bob St. Clair. tough to win western division in those days against Lombardi

He was the QB that started the shotgun snap from center.

Yet another example of how being the MVP has nothing to do with winning the ultimate game... The Super Bowl. Everybody remembers the Super Bowl MVP’s... Nobody remembers the regular season MVP.

There is something hinky about this

The piece says he had a stroke 10/26/2000. Are they claiming he’s been at death’s door for 25 years?

Maybe, just maybe, it’s a fact without any implications.

My first QB hero as a kid.

I heard the NFC championship game on KNBR in 1970.

That year Brodie was was NFL MVP...and it was well deserved.
