What Is 'Pathways' And Who Is Amelia?
Pathways is an educational visual novel and learning experience created by the U.K. media company Shout Out UK, with funding from the U.K. government's Prevent program, run by the Home Office.
The game is meant to teach the youth about the dangers of radicalization and extremism in both real life and online. This is done by putting players in the role of a character named Charlie, who must navigate six different scenarios relating to extremism.
In the second scenario, the player is introduced to the character Amelia, a staunch anti-immigration protestor depicted as a goth girl with purple hair, a pink dress and a choker. While players are not meant to take Amelia's side, one side of the internet has recently decided to turn her into a controversial waifu.
Amelia garnered widespread attention on sites like X / Twitter and subreddits like /r/KotakuInAction in January 2026, when people began complaining about the way that Pathways purportedly portrays teens who question immigration policies as extremists.
However, rather than denouncing Amelia's rhetoric as Pathways intended, far-right social media users and trolls have banded together to turn Amelia into a symbol for anti-immigration in the U.K.
This has resulted in a flood of fan art, memes and posts celebrating Amelia, many of which are gaining tens of thousands of likes and reposts.

This is hilarious. Amelia now being recreated as symbol for British patriotism.
Reminds me of what happened when PETA produced their own game “Meaner than Mama”. It was meant to showcase how processing animals for food was inheritantly cruel. Kids, my own included, loved it.
PETA pulled it when it was discovered as to having the opposite of the intended effect.
