Two Brooklyn marketers plead guilty in federal court to taking part in a wide-ranging Medicaid fraud scheme that prosecutors say relied on illegal kickbacks, sham billing, and money laundering connected to two social adult day care centers and a home health care company.

Manal Wasef, 46, and Elaine Antao, 46, both of Brooklyn, were admitted to conspiring to commit health care fraud after investigators concluded they helped steer Medicaid recipients to specific providers in exchange for bribes and other illicit payments. Authorities allege the operation resulted in more than $68 million in Medicaid billings for services that were not provided. “The defendants were large-scale recruiters who bribed patients with laundered cash and billed Medicaid over $68 million for services that were not provided,” said Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, calling the guilty pleas part of the government’s ongoing effort to combat fraud in taxpayer-funded health care programs.

“Manal Wasef, 46, and Elaine Antao, 46, both of Brooklyn”

Are we sure about that?

From the DOJ page:

As part of their plea agreements, Wasef and Antao agreed to collectively forfeit approximately $1 million.

Nice little profit there. There were 5 other defendants already convicted. The two in this part are looking at 10 years each. How much of that they wind up serving, who knows.

If the other 5 defendants also forked up 1 mill, that leaves 61 million to pay for a suspended sentence and a few democrat campaigns.
