Unsurprisingly Texas bears a disproportionate share of the burden from illegal immigration due to its expansive southern border. Now state leadership has released the numbers to prove the massive financial burden illegal aliens have had on one sector in particular: hospitals.
New data has been released by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission showing a baffling 10-figure financial burden on Texas hospitals in fiscal year 2025, Texas Scorecard first reported.
According to the new data, the total visits between November 2024 and August 2025 reached 313,742 for those "not legally present."
And the total cost tipped over the billion-dollar mark: $1,050,642,864.
The year-end totals show that the burden is not only on one type of care either.
A large portion of the visits come from the "Emergency Department - Non-Medicaid/Non-CHIP" category, though the lion's share of the cost comes from the "Inpatient Discharges - Non-Medicaid/Non-CHIP" category, meaning that the hospital system is being burdened by illegal aliens seeking both emergency and long-term care.
This data was collected and released pursuant to an executive order signed by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in August 2024. The order directed hospitals to begin collecting data on illegal alien patients in Texas hospitals beginning in November 2024.
As Texas Scorecard noted, these numbers are therefore not reflective of the full fiscal year, and the actual totals very likely exceed these figures.
Abbott argued in the executive order that Texans ultimately bear the burden of public financial support through higher taxes and more expensive medical care as well.

Conservatives need to highlight stories like this a lot more in response to the Dems and MSM stories about how ICE is deporting “non-violent” illegal immigrants. Way too large a portion of the US population buys into the idea that if an illegal is not committing crimes, that they should be allowed to stay in the US. Allowing that puts a huge tax on our healthcare system, our rental markets, our labor markets. Illegals in the US completely undermines the middle class. It brings diseases into the country that we formerly eradicated. And its made all the worse because Biden allowed tens of millions of illegals into the US with is criminal open borders policy. The number of illegals who came in is unprecedented and overwhelmed our government programs. That is why all illegals need to be sent back, whether they committed violent crimes or not.
Keeping hospitals tied to government subsides is rat MO.
Treat arrest and deport
Texas hospital emergency rooms need to have an in-resident ICE team ready to alleviate the problem.
And if hospitals want don’t want to cooperate, then they can have their state-issued license to operate revoked by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
Can’t keep the freeloading bass turds out of the hospitals. The ERs are their “foot in the door.” Once they get in, they are in for good and the taxpayers who work rather than riot have to pay their damn doctor bills for their entire families. Our hospitals are full of mom and pop, tio and tia illegal aliens and all their female daughters, girlfriends and nieces poppin out non American anchor babies so they can qualify for a free baby stroller and Medicaid from the gringo workers and tax payers. The residents living in this country are a real bunch of dumb f***s. They quit their jobs to riot all day long when they are not up in Montana and Wyoming poking the buffalo fuzzy cows. Most of them wouldn’t know a Nazi if a whole platoon of Nazis were bittin’ them on the ass.
Yep. A friend just had eye surgery - that gave her back her ability to drive and live life normally, otherwise she was legally blind and deteriorating toward blindness. Insurance is trying to deny coverage as an “unnecessary” and demanding she pay $25, including $9k for the anesthesia.
Illegals Walz across the border and get these services for free courtesy of the American taxpayer.
Emergency centers areullegal alien’s personzl health care faci, ities. Everyo e else is put on hold because the facilities are too full!
Sounds like a good reason to justify a state tax on remittances from Texas to a foreign country. “You know, to fund that free healthcare.”
And there I thought we didn’t have universal health care!
from my health care funding plan:
EMTALA (and Medicaid ER) Reform
To get care under the EMTALA or Medicaid for yourself or custodial child, the hospital might require you to
1. pay $100 in cash or by financial organization card accepted at the emergency care facility,
2. hand over your valid SNAP card and tender a matching valid domestic governmental picture ID,
3. hand over your valid domestic driver’s license,
4. hand over your valid US passport,
5. hand over your operable Apple or Samsung cellphone model listed by a current regulation issued by a Secretary of HHS, or
6. hand over a valid domestic governmental picture ID of yours and
a tender matching financial institution statement less than 70 days old showing a domestic governmental or employer direct deposit of at least $150, both for hospital photocopying and recordkeeping.
States might be allowed to authorize emergency care facilities to contemporaneously debit SNAP cards for EMTALA incidents.
Items handed over may be retained by the emergency care facility until retrieved within one month by the responsible party by paying $100, or more, for the care, plus a retrieval fee not exceeding $20 in a manner the facility accepts. Items not timely retrieved may be disposed of in a legally allowable manner.
NOTE: People can get the care they need, but only by paying $100, forfeiting an expensive cellphone, or going through the hassle of replacing a SNAP card or government picture ID.
HOSPITAL EMTALA COST ASSISTANCE
I would allow hospitals collect up to $1,000 per incident of EMTALA service from patient related employers, with payment not in excess of $50 per week per employee concerned being due to any and all EMTALA providers and not for more than 100 weeks after service. Such payments on behalf of an employee would be considered to be a debt of the employee to the employer. Employers could collect back from employees and ex-employees (and require EMTALA incident employees to participate in an employer plan).
Absolutely right, except I would expand "treat" to "medically stabilize", which is probably what you meant anyway.
Any medical bills incurred by illegals should be deducted from any aid sent to those countries.
I have posted this on other threads, but I think it demonstrates exactly what is going on.
“I had to go the emergency room this past weekend for a minor issue. I was there approx two hours, the waiting room was probably 80 % Hispanic. When I was being released I was placed in a clinic area with curtains seperating patients. While waiting a person right next to me who did not speak English was being interviewed, couldn’t pay so he was applying for FAMILY ASSISTANCE, So the nurse made a call to an interpreter, the speaker was on. The man was asked his basics, address, children married, etc. then medical insurance, NONE. Are you an American, NO, Greencard, NO, are you in the U.S. legally NO, who is your employer NOT EMPLOYED . Ironically, he had been in a fight and his arm had been sliced with a knife.”
This was a smaller hospital in SC and as I was listening to this, I thought this is happening all over the country, in every hospital, every day, probably every hour.
Why is it so hard for Texas lawmakers to rent a bar, shoot darts, drink beer, harass waitresses, discuss the problem with illegals and their burden among taxpayers, have a good time, and write down propositions for the framework of a mother flipping LAW; delivering it to committee the next morning?
Why is that so mother flipping hard?
Exactly!! I keep wondering why the home countries of the illegals are not sent the bill.
Small rural hospitals emergency rooms and urgent care facilities have been run out of business and CLOSED because of NON reimbursed costs for the treatment of CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS more are at risk.
Inter city emergency rooms and urgent care facilities are over run and are on the edge of losing the ability to provide reasonable and safe care.
Things such as MRI’s and CAT scans that can mean the deference between an in time diagnoses and untreated fatal diseases are being delayed to accommodate CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS.
TAX paying American citizens are DYING hourly, daily, weekly because of this and the demoRATS, the woke left want you and I to pay more in taxes and get less in services back so they the left can build an ILLEGAL ALIEN block for census numbers and to allow them to vote.
As I write this NGO’s, demoRATs political pac’s, foreign socialist millionaires like george soros are funneling money to antifa and other paid professional protesters and terrorists to attack law enforcement and agents of the federal government. It’s time we hold these provocateurs accountable for their treasonous activities.
I am sure that a large number of people would support the capture and extradition of soros and his ilk for trial or maybe a drone strike or two would get the point across?
What go you think?
P.S.
Since President Trump has wisely decided to stop and seize all suspect remittances and wire transfers out of the USA that have not been shown to be legally TAXED. That money should be distributed to those hospitals and care centers at risk to repay at part of what the Criminal Illegal Alien Scum have stolen from the American TAX payer.
SURPRISE!
Park ICE trucks all around hospitals (look like ICE).
These hospitals ought to sue the NGO’s that brought them here. THEY should be liable for the expense.
