Lately, there have been a string of biblical films and TV series that are highly acclaimed and have won audiences over with their originality and unique composition. David is one of the latest of these projects to bring the life of a shepherd boy, who later became the second King of Israel, to audiences, and more notably, children in an epic style that would, in my opinion, land itself within the realm of high-production values as was brilliantly displayed in the movie, The Prince of Egypt, for example. This story of David brings audiences of all ages together to witness a depiction from a historical book of the Hebrew Bible that is rare, and not exactly for kids.
The Story:
David (Brandon Engman) is a young shepherd boy tending his sheep. While attending his flock, he cares for and protects them from predatory animals like lions, wolves, and bears. And not only does he protect his flock, David pursues the dangerous animals who puts his flock in danger.

So glad this content is getting made and widely distributed :)!
Right? Me too. I would also like to see depictions of Old Testament people such as Gideon and Jezebel/Elijah.
I saw the movie, and it was nice as far as it went. But so many movies have been made that covered this early period of David’s life! If you are hoping to see David’s reign as king of Israel, any instance of him writing any of the Psalms, his interactions with his sons, you will not see that in this movie.
I’d like to see a show from the book of Jude showing the angel Michael fighting Satan over the body of Moses.
Same feelings here. Kings I & II could easily be a mini-series, or even two. And the drama, intrigue, brutal violence and spiritual intensity could top anything ever put to film. This was for kids, and stripped out much of the meaning and struggles, and all of the violence.
That may be depicted in a sequel, though it would be interesting to see how the subjects of Bathsheba and Uriah being sent to battle, would be handled as well as incest between family members, and all the drama with Absalom. David’s drama really unfolds when during his tenure as King.
The fate of David’s sons...thinking Absalom here, is not only brutal — but the road and path to get there...right to the very end was...very...R-rated shall we say. (And that’s not even counting the Bathsheba episode prior..albeit that was arguably what set off the series of unfortunate events...)
I’m partial to the story of Jael, Deborah, Barak and others in Judges.
Gotta love the tent peg lady 😇.
Deborah too. ⚡️
There are SO many great stories in the Old Testament that would make terrific films. I agree, Elijah would make a good one, as would Esther.
And didn’t wuss Barak say he was afraid to go to war without Deborah? (It’s been decades since I was very familiar with the story, so I could be wrong.)

An unvarnished mini series on Kings I and II would probably draw in millions of viewers.
6 One day she sent for Barak son of Abinoam from the city of Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given you this command: ‘Take ten thousand men from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them to Mount Tabor. 7 I will bring Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, to fight you at the Kishon River. He will have his chariots and soldiers, but I will give you victory over him.’”
8 Then Barak replied, “I will go if you go with me, but if you don't go with me, I won't go either.”
9 She answered, “All right, I will go with you, but you won't get any credit for the victory, because the Lord will hand Sisera over to a woman.”
I remember a mini-series called AD about 30 years ago, it was about the Book of Acts. It was very accurate and well done. I’m convinced that true depictions of Scripture on mass media would draw huge audiences.
There’s a series on Angel called “Testament” which is the book of ACTS set in a dystopian future/present Britain:

I thought that was the way it happened.
Also it seems that something in my memory is that some “judges” in that era actually were military, and that Deborah was actually was a Captain in an army. I could be wrong.
100% !
2 Samuel 18:9: "...And as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak, Absalom's hair got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in midair, while the mule he was riding kept on going".
2 Samuel 18:33 "The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you—O Absalom, my son, my son!”
