As an Ohioan I find this disturbing.

Typically to be an auditor for state functions the firm has to have a licensed CPA.

It would not surprise me that this storefront auditor has stolen someone’s credentials.

I have been thinking all along that the auditors involved in all of this HAD to be getting cash out of it. I was not quite prepared for a store front office that looks like it specializes in Takis and Lotto tickets. But is does seem appropriate.

Now we wait for the statement from the AICPA and the state organization.

The “Feeding Our Future” food aid program, which involved an estimated $250 million in fraud.

Housing Stabilization Services, with millions stolen.
Autism therapy centers.

Child care assistance programs.

Billing Practices: Perpetrators allegedly submitted bogus claims to Medicaid and other government programs for services like assessments, inspections, and stabilization support that were never delivered. They often targeted vulnerable individuals, such as those recently released from rehab, to sign up for these fake services.

The nonpartisan Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) released a scathing report on the Behavioral Health Administration’s grant process, highlighting fabricated documents and lack of oversight.

Federal authorities, including the FBI, IRS Criminal Investigation, and the HHS Office of Inspector General, are actively investigating hundreds of companies and have secured numerous convictions.

The key takeaway is that the fraudsters operated from storefronts, and their activities were uncovered by legitimate auditors and law enforcement. The total amount of money involved in various Minnesota-based social service fraud cases is estimated to be in the billions of dollars.
