Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers this week that President Donald Trump wants to acquire Greenland through a purchase rather than military action, as the administration revisits a long-standing proposal that has triggered sharp pushback from European allies and renewed debate over U.S. strategy in the Arctic.
Rubio delivered the remarks during a closed-door briefing on Monday with members of the armed services and foreign policy committees in both chambers of Congress, according to U.S. officials.
The briefing was focused primarily on Venezuela, but lawmakers raised questions about Trump's intentions toward Greenland after recent comments by the president and senior adviser Stephen Miller.

Worth praying for.
Louisiana Purchase. Seward’s folly. What will we call the Greenland acquisition?
Negotiating for Greenland might be where all the talents, skill, experience, personality, and current resources available to the now President Donald J. Trump, and even the world situation, all come together for a historical leap forward in American geography, resources, and global future coming out of acquiring Greenland.
Trump needs to close the deal before Denmark is taken over by Islamic immigrants.
An 1880 Danish census recorded 8 “Mohammadans” in the country. In 1980, an estimated 30,000 Muslims lived in Denmark, amounting to 0.6% of the population. By January 2020 Muslims made up 256,000 persons or 4.4% of the Danish population and is now over 5%.
There's much more to it but
I think Greenland might be a parallel case.
I’ve said it before, but if Mr, Trump offers each and every Greenlander $1 Million tax-free and US citizenship, the deal will be done for $50 Billion. A bargain!
I’m not seeing any negotiating skills. So far so all of his so called negotiating has been sign this or we’ll use force against you. Same here, “sell it to us so we don’t have to take it militarily”.
That just mafia negotiating.
He can’t even get a republican congress to pass election reform, or to make social security non taxable, or do anything about skyrocketing electric or health insurance rates…. But he can get them to appropriate money to buy Greenland?
He really needs to get serious and quit farting around with pipe dreams. He doesn’t have a minute to waste. This time next year when Hakeem Jeffries is speaker of a Democrat House, we’ll all be royally screwed. And we’ll look back on this as the time waste and unproductive agitation it was.
He thinks being annoying and agitation is art of the deal stuff. But sometimes it can do enjoy damage that people just walk away.
Adjusted for inflation The US paid around $150 million for Alaska. We should start negotiations there. Lol.
What a cheerful soul.
Itn the short term, it could work in the sense you mention. But it also guarantees a democrat house and senate in the next election. Imagine everyone in America and the very real struggles many people have…think of people on Social Security and paying tax on it. And they watch on TV as every Eskimo and Dane in Greenland gets handed a million bucks, Kushner gets a cut somehow, abs the normal American people get…. a glacier.
I can’t think of a faster way to lose the midterms.
I want all of Africa, too.
And Russia.
And China.
Best I can offer is $50 million, but I’m taking a lot of risk here...
Do you think it’s a masterclass in negotiation to say we are willing to but it to avoid the need to invade and seize it?
And do you think he can get Congress to agree to any of this when he can’t have them do the most basic things?
Tell me where I’m incorrect
MAGAfest Destiny.
Population 56,000.
Trump’s mentor worked with the mob: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Cohn
And Trump of course dealt with mobbed-up unions in NY and NJ.
China? I think your figures are off.
