Why Maga hates Europe: Trump takes the culture wars across the Atlantic
The Financial Times ^ | December 12, 2025 | Amy Mackinnon

In Donald Trump’s telling, London is governed by a “horrible, vicious, disgusting mayor”, Sadiq Khan. European leaders are “weak”, their nations “decaying” and the EU was established to “screw” the US.

Trump reserves much of his sharpest criticism for America’s allies in Europe. The US president’s frustration with Nato members over their failure to meet the alliance’s defence spending targets was well known. The level of antipathy was not.

“It came kind of out of nowhere,” said Jeremy Shapiro, research director of the European Council on Foreign Relations, who has studied recent foreign policy debates within the Republican party.

“This was not part of the debate in the Maga world before the [second] term.”

Part of it, according to analysts and former aides to the president, can be traced to well-worn disputes over trade, tech and climate regulation, and defence spending. JD Vance speaks on stage in front of an audience at the Munich Leaders Meeting, with American flags behind him.

“The EU just aggravates him a lot more than any other trading partner. He finds them tough to deal with,” said a former senior US official who served in the second Trump administration.

Trump has fused economics with defence and national security, blurring the lines between the EU and Nato, even though they do not share the same membership.

Much of Europe has become anti-Christian and anti-freedom.

Pretty simple.

They hate Jesus, white people, free speech and America in general. They mock America constantly. They do not have elections in the EU. So why -should- we have warm feeling for them?

These reporters and Council on Foreign Relations people are just playing stupid.

Western Civilization is committing suicide through a "modern" version of a communist revolution, including the mass importation of foreigners, along with more and more draconian policies against native-born, patriotic citizens who don't want to see their countries destroyed or their women raped and pillaged while the government stands aside. This is not new.

MAGA is used as a slur by socialists to label those who are aware of and oppose their revolution. There is no MAGA, not the way they mean, there is a huge number of American citizens who are true conservatives and are working to rescue our Constitutional Republic from the socialists seeking to destroy it.

These American citizens do not hate the EU. We hate the globo-socialist trash that is the EU's "leadership" as we hate the socialist elitists in this nation. We are fully behind the European citizenry now awakening to the danger in their homelands and we are praying it isn't too late to change it.

Europe is no longer Europe. They have forgotten their past or are only living on their glory days earned by ancestors and lost by them. They couldn’t or wouldn’t hold it. They have allowed themselves to be overrun and can no longer function.

We don’t hate Europe. Europe is gone. Indeed, we miss Europe.

Like here, the elites have become anti-Christian and anti-freedom.

They can't vote them out of power because the uniparty, there like here, conspires to shut-out any genuine political opposition and if necessary, has its political opponents indicted.

Just like in the US.

The main difference is that the US is far more democratic than Europe in the sense that anyone can run in a primary as a Republican or Democrat to get a party's nomination.

That isn't possible in Europe: the party machine picks the candidates and you can't run as their candidate without being selected. That's how the prime minister enforces party discipline.

Real outsiders have to start their own party, like Le Pen's father or Farage. A much more daunting task.

MAGA loves Europe, because MAGA wants European nations to survive. No borders, self-destructive globalist EU types hate Europe, because they do not want European nations to survive (in any recognizable, meaningful sense).

We have a couple of things going for us. We have the Constitution. And immigrants truly believe in the "American Dream".

As of recent estimates, about 38.7% of Texas’s population and 50.6% of Florida’s population identify as Non-Hispanic White.

Yet both states are Republican strongholds.

Most Americans still cling to quaint, outdated notions of what Europe is like. The reality is that Europe has been transformed and shares fewer common values with decent rational Americans than ever in history.

Yes, a written Constitution certainly helps, although the excessive deference shown to SCOTUS' terrible decisions weakens that argument.

The other pillar is assimilation: as you say, those who move here have historically become American in attitude and culture, even many recent Latin American immigrants.

Look at the Hispanic names on the lists of our dead from the GWOT.

But floods of immigrants diminish that as they can't assimilate, especially when the US gov and states kiss their butts with "bilingual" education, signs, documents and translators.

They can effin learn English like my parents and I had to.

Historically, we're at the same point where we were at 1890. Then we started to close our borders after that. So if we elect JD in 2028, it's likely that we will continue the trend.

I have detested arrogant Europeans long before Donald Trump first ran for president and long before I ever heard the term “MAGA”. I’m all for leaving NATO and pulling all our troops out of Europe. That continent is not worth one American life or one American dollar. Red China is our existential threat and that’s what we need to focus on. Russia is a paper bear and no real threat to the US.

If our ancestors wanted to be non-bathing, techno-dancing, chain-smoking, divine-rights-of-kings-loving Jew-gassing Euros, they'd have stayed there.

When America was establishing the greatest country in history, Europoors were burning witches at the stake.

or Rupert Lowe MP who started another reform party within the Reform Party.

He had some sort of nasty split with Farage. I don’t know the beef is. Lowe claims Farage tried to put him in jail.

Lowe is much much tougher on the UK illegal issue then the Reform party is.
