Android eReader Recommendations

Posted on 12/07/2025 2:00:02 PM PST by sethro

Looking at getting a tablet with a "paper like" screen for reading ebooks and bible study. I currently use a few apps with saved notes, highlights, etc. on my phone so it will have to be an Android device to carry that over.

A color screen is another need but understand the cost going up there. I see many in the 6 to 7 inch size but not sure much better that is than my phone.

Appreciate any recommendations gang and many thanks in advance.

Our FAVORITE reading App is ReadEra. In the settings are different screens. The setting Console gives a black background with soft green letters. At night you can turn the brightness down to 1) not disturb your partner and 2) not ruin your eyes.

Remarkable Paper Pro imports PDF files for reading, and also allows note taking on a paper-like surface. It is a little pricey, and it doesn’t do very much — but that is a major selling point. There are no distractions. It’s basically an infinite notepad that allows note taking, storage and organizing and will never distract you with the potential of social media surfing, YouTube, gaming or anything else.

The Remarkable Move is a new product which is smaller, the size of a reporter’s notepad.

These are not like the Kindle, and are not focused on reading books, and I’m not sure you could read the Bible on them, but good tools for note-taking while reading a physical book or an on-screen PDF.

Remember those boomboxes that dudes carried on their shoulders?

Get a 24"er and it will stick out far enough from your shoulder that you can read it. You'll start a new trend and the tablet-maker will film you walking around and give you free tablets for life!

I have a 10 inch Kindle Scribe. Great reading experience.

I began my eReader odyssey with a used Nook someone gave me. It was very durable and lasted several years despite having been ill-used before I got it. (I believe it had an 8” screen.) I then bought a Kobo (6”). I loved it but they aren’t well made. The on/off switch disintegrated. I’m now on my second Kindle (also 6”). It’s certainly durable, and I use it all the time. But you have to be careful if you get books from sources besides Amazon. It will sync if allowed and overwrite them and only leave Amazon-purchased titles on the device. I get a lot of books via Overdrive I don’t want overwritten, so I go through some hoops to manage titles without ever letting the little bugger on-line. None of the above 3 models were good for anything but reading. I suspect one that would run apps would cost significantly more. Any of the above is superior to a phone, in my opinion.

I find the Fire tablet much better than an E Ink reader for Bible study. The AndBible is the app of choice for me. (I have E-Sword on my Windows devices).

I’m a little confused. Are you looking for an Android eBook app to use on an Android tablet?
