What This Chinese Spy Got Away With in Kathy Hochul’s Name Boggles the Mind, Court Docs Reveal

A former aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who has been accused of being a covert Chinese agent, allegedly forged Hochul's signature on flattering letters inviting dignitaries from China's Henan province to meet with then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2018.

Prosecutors showed court documents to jurors at Linda Sun's trial, revealing that she may have forged Hochul's signature on several letters — when she served as Cuomo's Lt. Gov. — inviting the Chinese delegation to meet with state officials and promote investment opportunities.

Sun held several prominent roles under Cuomo before becoming Hochul's Deputy Chief of Staff.

Letters, according to the New York Post, said the delegation could expect discussions about “promoting greater investment, trade cooperation and tourism opportunities” in a state with the third-largest GDP.

One problem, however. The signature, according to former chief of staff Jeff Lewis, was not Hochul's, as it exhibited "overly loopy" traits dissimilar to the governor's own John Hancock.

“From my experience, this is not how she would sign her name,” Lewis told the jury.

Sun has been accused of being a Chinese spy. The fact that she infiltrated the office of an American Governor at such a high level — she was still a top aide to Hochul when she succeeded Cuomo — and was negotiating or at least promoting pro-CCP (Chinese Communist Party) economic policies in a state so significant in the operation of the American economy is frightening.

Why did she do it? As RedState's Managing Editor, Jennifer Van Laar, reported upon Sun's arrest in September of 2024, the Chinese agent and her husband were allegedly accepting massive bribes totaling millions, then laundering the money and using the scheme's benefits to buy luxury vehicles and million-dollar properties.

In addition to the letters purportedly bearing forged signatures, jurors also had the opportunity to feast their eyes on the spoils of the couple's supposed efforts to advance China's agenda in New York state.

Multiple million-dollar homes. Luxury cars, one built by Ferrari. No expense is spared by China, it appears, when they're trying to infiltrate a Democrat governor's administration.

Lest we forget the Rolex watches and other gaudy jewelry that were found inside a $4 million Long Island mansion that Sun and her husband were living in when they were arrested.

Inside the jewelry box? A business card of a Chinese government official.

Lewis testified that Governor Hochul did meet with the Henan province delegation in 2018. Despite being just a few minutes long, Hochul had time to get a picture with the group, which was presented as evidence in Sun's indictment.

Sun has also been accused of influencing pandemic-era discussions by secretly placing a consulate official on a phone call in 2020 at the height of COVID, preventing Cuomo from meeting with officials from Taiwan, and even getting Hochul to omit mention of the Uyghurs, a repressed Muslim minority, in a speech commemorating the Lunar New Year in 2021.

China couldn't have been more pleased with their investment ... allegedly.

Sun was initially charged with violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy. She and her husband were hit with more charges in June of 2025, contending they helped steer lucrative contracts to Chinese companies to sell masks and ventilators to the New York government during the pandemic.

Think about that for just a moment. Chinese companies were selling masks and ventilators to Cuomo, who was being heralded at the time for being a COVID savior (he wasn't), for a virus that came from China. What a racket.

Sun's legal team contends that she has been targeted for being wealthy, arguing, "Working hard and being successful does not mean you are a criminal."

RedState will provide readers with further updates on this bombshell case as events warrant.

Chinese law says that any Chinese must work for their intelligence network if they’re ordered to do so. No exceptions. If you don’t all sorts of bad things might happen to your relatives or even to you. So, hiring a Chinese to do anything beyond yard work is insane.

I saw a poster, probably from one of the alphabet agencies. It showed a lovely Chinese woman all dolled up with an older white guy faded into the background. The graphic read, “If she’s into you. She’s a spy.”

The Chinese would make the Italian Mafia blush.

You don’t have to tell me about Andrew Cuomo’s corruption. He was no different than his old man when it came to giving kickbacks to his friends and big donors. I think that may have been one of the reasons why Mario Cuomo never ran for President. Too much money laundering that would have come out.
