From what I have read in the past, the rationale was that it made more sense to focus air power on defeating the Germans militarily as quickly as possible by bombing things like munition and supply trains, then it did to try to interdict the trains carrying Jews and prolonging the war.
I don't have an issue with that. Ending the war as quickly as possible was the fastest way to end the Holocaust. Or at least, it wasn't unreasonable to believe that.
Covering up rather than cleaning up.
Charles Lindbergh was a huge Hitler fan too.
At the time, the belief in Eugenics was fairly widespread.
Be fair, I don’t believe that the folks like Ford and Lindbergh could have even conceived of the lengths the Nazis would eventually go, even though Hitler did spell it out in Mein Kampf.
There is in FDR's case another motivation: he had a substantial portion of the population that were convinced that Jewish interests started World War II. For 20 years before Pearl Harbor, there were prominent people like Henry Ford, Father Charles Coughlin, and Charles Lindbergh who spoke against Jewish power in politics and international affairs. While Ford toned down his attacks for business reasons and the Catholic hierarchy silenced Coughlin, the America First movement, for which Lindbergh was a spokesman, had a massive following. Future Presidents John Kennedy and Gerald Ford were members of America First. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor pushed the United States into World War II, and Hitler obliged the American interventionists by declaring war against the U.S. immediately after Pearl Harbor.
Any emphasis on the plight of European Jews would have resurrected anti-Semitic feelings in the country. FDR knew this and did not want to take the risk.
In Britain, there was Oswald Mosley.
Strategically that’s the right move. It’s cold, but that’s war for you. You can’t bomb the camps, you’ll mostly be doing Germany’s killing for them. Rail lines are easy to replace. And the fact is Germany wasted a lot of man power and material on those camps. And that’s really where the cold calculation comes in. Every soldier, every piece of steel, every ounce of diesel used to keep those camps going was one less on the front line. From a winning the war perspective discouraging the Holocaust would be bad. Not the kind of decision that one would feel good about, but the right call.
All that is true, and I despise him, BUT, he did know how to fight a total War.
Also an important point is that in the US and Britain the anti-Jewish sentiment was based more on “Jewish Finance” than considering Jews to be sub-human, as was the case with the Nazis.
Even those who spoke out against “Jewish Finance” were outraged by Krystallnacht, and anti-Jewish Nazi propaganda, like ‘Der Steurmer’ and the films like “The Eternal Jew”.
U.S. News and World Report revealed the unpleasant truth: when FDR mentioned he would soon be seeing Saudi Arabian leader Ibn Saud, Stalin asked if he intended to make any concessions to the king, and “the President replied that there was only one concession he thought he might offer and that was to give him the six million Jews in the United States.”
Of course, Stalin was just as anti-semitic, in fact he basically allowed the Nazis to march into the parts of the Soviet Union that contained most of their Jews, so as to allow Hitler to take care of Stalin’s “Jewish Problem”.
Stupidest revisionist thing I’ve ever heard. We couldn’t bomb those areas in 1942 when the bulk of the extermination happened. In 42 we could barely bomb northern France and Germany coastal towns. In 1938 Poland had 10500 miles of rail. It was a spiderweb network covering the entire nation. Bomb one strand, things would instantly reroute. And rebuilding rail takes only a few days… it’s fast.
But all of that assumes we could do it, we couldn’t. It wasn’t until late 43 that Berlin was getting hit with any strength by the RAF. It wasn’t until January 43 that we did our first air rate on Germany at all. And that was Wilhelmshaven a coastal city and we used 58 bombers.
The death camps were in eastern Poland, and southern Poland and deep into Germany in 42. And that’s another thing, there was not one death camp, there was a chain of them. In 42 we could barely make it to France, we had no escort fighters with range.
This is a childish emotional argument. The video is AI click bait. And it ignores one critical feature of the Nazis. If they couldn’t take them to this location and kill them, they would kill them somewhere else. This is equivalent to the argument that we should’ve just sailed into Tokyo Bay in 1942 and taken over.
That is a suggestion made by someone without a clue. German infrastructure that was bombed one day was usually ready for service the next day. There was plenty of slave labor to do the work.
Bombing the camps would merely kill prisoners faster.
The vast majority of the Jews encountered by the Nazis were in The Soviet Union, they were shot, as opposed to being sent to the Death Camps. The Death Camps were primarily for the Jews from Central and Western Europe.

Discrimination against Jews, long-standing but extra-legal throughout much of Europe at the time, was codified in Germany immediately after the Nazi seizure of power on 30 January 1933. The Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service, passed on 7 April of that year, excluded most Jews from the legal profession and the civil service. Similar legislation soon deprived other Jews of the right to practise their professions. Violence and economic pressure were used by the regime to force Jews to leave the country. Jewish businesses were denied access to markets, forbidden to advertise in newspapers, and deprived of access to government contracts. Citizens were harassed and subjected to violent attacks and boycotts of their businesses.
By the start of World War II in Europe in 1939, around 250,000 of Germany’s 437,000 Jews had immigrated to the United States, British Mandatory Palestine, Great Britain, and other countries.
After the invasion of Poland in September 1939, Hitler ordered that the Polish leadership and intelligentsia be destroyed. The Sonderfahndungsbuch Polen (Special Ledger of Wanted Persons–Poland)—lists of people to be located so they could be interned or killed—had been drawn up by the SS as early as May 1939. The Einsatzgruppen (special task forces) performed these murders with the support of the Volksdeutscher Selbstschutz (Germanic Self-Protection Group), a paramilitary group consisting of ethnic Germans living in Poland. Members of the SS, the Wehrmacht (German Armed Forces), and the Ordnungspolizei (Order Police; Orpo) also shot civilians during the Polish campaign. Approximately 65,000 civilians were killed by the end of 1939. In addition to leaders of Polish society, they murdered Jews, prostitutes, Romani people, and the mentally ill.
On 31 July 1941, Hermann Göring gave written authorization to SS-Obergruppenführer (Senior Group Leader) Reinhard Heydrich, Chief of the Reich Security Main Office (RSHA), to prepare and submit a plan for a “total solution of the Jewish question” in territories under German control and to coordinate the participation of all involved government organisations. The resulting Generalplan Ost (General Plan for the East) called for deporting the population of occupied Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union to Siberia, for use as slave labour or to be murdered. The minutes of the Wannsee Conference estimated the Jewish population of the Soviet Union to be five million, including nearly three million in Ukraine.
In addition to eliminating Jews, the Nazis also planned to reduce the population of the conquered territories by 30 million people through starvation in an action called the Hunger Plan devised by Herbert Backe. Food supplies would be diverted to the German army and German civilians. Cities would be razed and the land allowed to return to forest or resettled by German colonists. The objective of the Hunger Plan was to inflict deliberate mass starvation on the Slavic civilian populations under German occupation by directing all food supplies to the German home population and the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front. According to the historian Timothy Snyder, “4.2 million Soviet citizens (largely Russians, Belarusians, and Ukrainians) were starved” by the Nazis (and the Nazi-controlled Wehrmacht) in 1941–1944 as a result of Backe’s plan.
Harvests were poor in Germany in 1940 and 1941 and food supplies were short, as large numbers of forced labourers had been brought into the country to work in the armaments industry. If these workers—as well as the German people—were to be adequately fed, there must be a sharp reduction in the number of “useless mouths”, of whom the millions of Jews under German rule were, in the light of Nazi ideology, the most obvious example.
At the time of the Wannsee Conference, the mass-murder of Jews in the Soviet Union had already been underway for more than half a year. Right from the start of Operation Barbarossa—the invasion of the Soviet Union—Einsatzgruppen were assigned to follow the army into the conquered areas and round up and murder Jews. In a letter dated 2 July 1941, Heydrich communicated to his SS and police leaders that the Einsatzgruppen were to execute Comintern officials, ranking members of the Communist Party, extremist and radical Communist Party members, people’s commissars, and Jews in party and government posts. Open-ended instructions were given to execute “other radical elements (saboteurs, propagandists, snipers, assassins, agitators, etc.)”. He instructed that any pogroms spontaneously initiated by the occupants of the conquered territories were to be quietly encouraged. On 8 July, he announced that all Jews were to be regarded as partisans, and gave the order for all male Jews between the ages of 15 and 45 to be shot. By August, the net had been widened to include women, children, and the elderly—the entire Jewish population. By the time planning was underway for the Wannsee Conference, hundreds of thousands of Polish, Serbian, and Russian Jews had already been murdered.

Ford also built a big factory in Germany to produce trucks for the Nazis. During the war, Ford Werke cooperated with the Nazi government. Ford Werke used forced laborers, including prisoners of war and concentration camp inmates, in its operations. A September 1945 US Army report called Ford Werke “an arsenal of Nazism.”
Hitler had a life-size photo of Henry Ford in his office - the only portrait on his walls. The remainder were art and blueprints.
The Nazi Party never could have grown like it did, without some big money being poured into it. And in the early 1920s, German Industrialists weren’t exactly thrilled about a Party whose stated goal with the Nationalization of German Industry.
The Wannsee Conference (German: Wannseekonferenz, German pronunciation: [ˈvanzeːkɔnfeˌʁɛnt͡s] ⓘ) was a meeting of senior government officials of Nazi Germany and Schutzstaffel (SS) leaders, held in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee on 20 January 1942. The purpose of the conference, called by the director of the Reich Security Main Office SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, was to ensure the co-operation of administrative leaders of various government departments in the implementation of the Final Solution to the Jewish Question, whereby most of the Jews of German-occupied Europe would be deported to occupied Poland and murdered.
This kind of refutes the proposition that it was secret. If American and British private organizations knew about the death camps, they were not secret. Also, in the 1940s, bombing the railway lines was not easy, and even if you were to hit them, the tracks could be replaced in a matter of hours. The best way to save the people in those camps was to crush the NAZIs, and that is what they did.
Overall, this article is a bunch of BS, IMHO.
