Fox News host Laura Ingraham urged Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) and other Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster, lest the GOP “get wiped out” in the next year’s midterm elections.
The federal government has been shut down since Oct. 1, after the Senate could not agree on a bill to keep the government funded beyond September. While the GOP controls the chamber 53-47, 60 votes are necessary to invoke cloture to break filibusters and advance legislation. In exchange for the requisite votes, Democrats are demanding that Republicans agree to extend healthcare premium subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, which are set to expire at the end of the year. Republicans have refused.
President Donald Trump has demanded that Senate Republicans eliminate the filibuster, which many senators regard as important to protect the Senate’s minority party.
On Friday’s episode of The Ingraham Angle, the host asked Marshall about the prospects for its elimination.
“Senator, Republicans – especially the more establishment Republicans – are very, very wedded to this idea of holding onto the filibuster with a death grip,” Ingraham said before alleging that if Democrats regain power, they will eliminate the rule. “Do you believe, given what this country and our people are facing, that it is time for the Republican Party to ditch the filibuster and start doing things for the American people?”

Trump needs to deport as many illegals as possible before the 2026 midterm election. Fewer votes for the RATs.
This is not difficult. Just end it for CR votes only, same as for budget reconciliation matters.
And then they’ll just do the same.
As you have heard many times, the Democrats will nuke the filibuster as soon as they get back in power.
So why should we keep the filibuster?
As I've said before, the problem is not the filibuster cloture vote, it's the 17th amendment.
It's not the minority "party" that used to be protected, it was the minority of states that was being protected (and by extension, the legislatures that appointed their Senators).
Everything got warped and twisted with the 17th amendment made the parties' interestests became dominant over the states' interests.

Yes she is. It is what the rats want and it gives them an off ramp that won’t send their rabid base into hysterics.
Just remember, regardless of which side gets rid of the Filibuster, both sides can use it.
When Schumer got rid of the Filibuster for Judges, the Republicans used it to get 3 Judges on the Supreme Court and to put dozens of Trump judges on the Lower courts, all of which would have been blocked by the Democrats had Schumer not gotten rid of the Filibuster.
If the Republicans get rid of the Filibuster now, the Democrats will use it when they have power, and they want have to do anything because the Filibuster would have been eliminated for them by the Republicans.
Maybe, but the problem is once you crack that door open, it’s gonna get kicked down.
Hairy Raid-the-treasury learned that the hard way with the judicial appointments filibuster.
Even just the CR — I’d point out that while the shoe is now on our feet, some of the most valuable halts to the excesses of Obummer came by using it to stop him and his cadre.
I haven’t thought of Laura Ingraham in many years - since I ditched Fox a decade ago.
I used to think she was great on her afternoon radio show.
Her Fox News spot was a big step down I thought - seemed like she had less independence to speak her mind. Same with Hannity.
Then she started getting cosmetic surgery and looked nothing like the original Laura.
Her next big mistake was her obsession with that weirdo Raymond Aroyo(?) who was a regular guest - god knows why. Nobody ever heard of him except her - I never once saw him except on her show. So strange. She acted as if he was some kind of authority on every subject.. I guess she was banging him and wanted to pluck him out of obscurity and make him a household name - but it didn’t work. .
Other than that I had no problem with her, but ever since I quit Fox News I lost track of her.
She gave a pretty good pro-Trump speech at the 2016 Republican convention, I’ll give her that - but that was 9 years ago.
I understand that is a possibility. Now, the priority is getting the shutdown ended.
The only way the Rs can preserve the filibuster, assuming we want it preserved, is to pass, with 51 votes, a Senate rule saying 60 votes are needed to end the filibuster rule *and* 60 votes are needed to change this 60 vote requirement.
As it is now, 51 votes is all that is needed to end it and I fear the Dems will do so at their next opportunity.
Careful analysis of the House races, using Trump to boost turnout where it helps, and pouring beaucoup money into the critical races - on the count, changing just as the Dems do.
Getting a national media message (a contract with America-like theme) -and cultivating media spokespersons and personalities who can focus on issues (oh, do we miss Rush!)
If the House goes, expect Impeachment 24/7.
Time to go scorched earth for the next 12 months, starting with nuking the filibuster. Give the liberals a mouthful of what an authoritarian government looks like. Let them wail and gnash their teeth. With history as a guide, the House and Senate are likely to flip anyway.
“Brennt Paris?”
“Brennt Paris?”
“Brennt Paris?”
Yeah, Arroyo...I figured they were/are dating or some such. Never understood it otherwise.
I would not take advice from Ingram .
I always confused him with Pee-wee Herman
I'll expect the Democrats to be +10 so they'll take the House. Then they'll elect AOC as the Speaker.
Trump voters will stay home unless we find a way to get them to show up on Election Day.
Exactly. They only need 51 for judges and they barely got any through. Biden made them a priority and Trump sees that daily. Why trump isn’t making judges a priority is a huge mistake.
hah!
I can just about bet Democrats will get rid of it. It’s best we do it first.
