The Dastardly Dysfunction in Deviating from the Norm

It seems to me that what’s been lost in the discussion about the fedgov shutdown is the fact that this country has been operating under “omnibus” CRs for some time. The proper appropriations process seems to be a forgotten function of Congress, what do we pay these people for? Even under Republican control, there seems to be no desire to do what should be done regarding funding the government; not even “King” Trump has spoken on this issue (as far as I know), and nothing from loudmouths such as Rand Paul, Tom Massie, or MTG, why? Of course, this how we get into this nonsense about who is to be blamed or not, and who’s ox is to be gored, or not; the proper time to address all of this would have been in passing the nominally 12 bills, and hashing out the details in that process. It’d also seem that without following the process, it gives the minority way more power than they’d otherwise have. By holding all of the government hostage, these CRs ensure that all kinds of bull$hit (pork) are funded; when, and if, we get out of this stalemate, look for a CR to extend operations until just around Christmas when the sob stories will be amplified by every major media outlet. Some people never learn.

Let me be clear, aside from keeping the country safe, I do not miss any of the government’s “functions,” I’m sure some people do. On this particular issue, however, we’d better be careful as certain deep state actors, we know some names, are likely plotting and scheming on how to create an “event” in this “crisis” so it doesn’t go to waste in placing blame on the shutdown, and the administration.

To reiterate, I simply cannot understand why these people (Congress) won’t do a key part of their job. How long will we run deficits, and use CRs to run the country? Imagine spending more money than your income, borrowing some, and then continuing to spend at levels you’ve been spending; who does this, and what’s the end game?

“...no desire...”

There is the desire.

Appropriations bills are in progress, but not all of them, and the ones that are in progress are (obviously) late.

It’s a Constitutional imperative and Speaker Johnson should be feels ng the heat.

You’re not the only one.

This is a huge test of accountability.

The "looting of the treasury" is now become the looting via debt of the nation. In a picture:

It is attributed to George Washington: "The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury."

Sean Hannity must read FR comments. The last CR situation before thus one, the one in which Schumer decided to vote in favor and got in trouble with AOC, after it passed, Hannity started his show with a similar sentiment to what you are expressing.

This Guy, and not to toot his own horn, was admittedly thumbs up on that CR, and on the Big Beautiful Bill, but also not missing any opportunities to call for, demand, emphasize how crucial it was to return Congress to, Constitutional Regular Order in appropriations.

Giving the fairer sex the vote appears to have cooked our fiscal goose.

--- "Giving the fairer sex the vote appears to have cooked our fiscal goose."

Though not a Roman Catholic, but rather because I read broadly, I came across a "right-wing" Vox Day article saying of another article:

"As we are observing in real time, female-dominated politics are not compatible with civilization because women have different priorities and perspectives than those required for its construction and maintenance. A feminist society, if left unchecked to its own devices, will look very similar to the average African society before European contact. The episode of Survivor in which the two tribes were divided by the sexes is a very vivid example of this. But the author is confusing the symptom for the disease. Women are more akin to the vector of the disease than the disease itself, as can be observed from the way in which men who are social justice warriors are every bit as incompetent and even more insane than the women are. The disease is ultimately spiritual and eventually ends in either societal collapse, pyramids dedicated to child sacrifice, or both."

The other article is quite interesting, and near the end one finds:

"...I don't think solving the feminization problem requires us to shut any doors in women's faces. We simply have to restore fair rules. Right now we have a nominally meritocratic system in which it is illegal for women to lose. Let's make hiring meritocratic in substance and not just name, and we will see how it shakes out. Make it legal to have a masculine office culture again. Remove the HR lady's veto power. I think people will be surprised to discover how much of our current feminization is attributable to institutional changes like the advent of HR, which were brought about by legal changes and which legal changes can reverse. "

The Great Feminization Helen Andrews, for Compact, 16 October 2025

I'll go with the optimism of Helen Andrews, a conservative woman. But certainly, as my bride of these many years says, "no nation should be run like a women's garden club...."

A majority, both Dem and Republican, profit from the dysfunction in which they can hide subsidies, tax breaks, regulatory changes, etc., that benefit them and their backers.

In many respects, all levels of government in the US operate as corrupt oligarchies. It's all the way from local "zoning waivers" (wink, wink) to EV subsidies at the Federal level, etc.

Over taxation and over regulation are the weapons of the oligarchy.
