Hours after mass shooting injures 4, alderman urges CPD to shutter Division Street nightclub

The shooting occurred around 3:48 a.m. near the intersection of State and Dearborn streets, an iconic nightlife district that has been drawing revelers for decades. More than 30 Chicago cops, mostly probationary officers, were already deployed nearby when gunmen opened fire from a moving vehicle.

According to preliminary reports, officers first spotted a gray Acura CL and a black SUV, believed to be a Jeep Grand Cherokee, racing south on State Street from Division around 3:31 a.m. The same vehicles were seen circling the neighborhood multiple times before the shooting occurred about 15 minutes later.

CPD said the gunfire came from the Acura, which then fled with the black SUV. Both vehicles entered the expressway system moments later via the Ontario Feeder Ramp, police said.

Hopkins said surveillance footage showed “large fights breaking out near the establishment prior to the incident.” He called for Gold Coast Social’s immediate closure and said he would “pursue permanent license revocation” if investigators determine the bar was connected to the shooting.

A Chicago police supervisor at the scene said no officers fired their weapons during the incident, and only one officer reported pointing a gun toward anyone. The supervisor said police were not believed to be the intended targets.

As of Friday morning, all four victims were in stable condition or had been released from the hospital, according to Hopkins. Police recovered more than 25 shell casings from both a handgun and a rifle at the scene.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson insist that "Crime is down" and there is no justification or need for National Guard troops in Chicago and its suburbs.

Or, as Gov. Creosote and Jimmy Kimmel would say, nothing to see here. Move along.

They were circling around waiting for their target to leave the building.

This is how gang hits work.

Someone needs to put the rabid dogs down.

Why not just make another gun control law since they seem to work so well.
