Rightly, or wrongly, Boomers have a reputation for being selfish. The “Me Decade” was their time, after all. Not all Boomers were selfish, of course. Some were literally self-sacrificing. But this story seems to involve Boomers who just wanted to live it up and travel the world, and expected their kids to pick up the pieces when it all fell apart for the oldsters. Feeds right into the stereotype.
The younger generation is selfish. They continue to want their participation trophy. Me, me, me
As a late Boomer, I was in grade school in the “Me Decade”.
“”””Rightly, or wrongly, Boomers have a reputation for being selfish.”””””
We do?????? Never heard that before.
I built a small cabin, to move into myself. I find that my mother’s living arrangements were deteriorating so I moved her into it. I now live in my RV next to the cabin.
That’s the background. Now the foreground of the story... I hate it. Her attitudes and philosophies make it impossible to leave my daughter under her care for even 10 minutes.
She is no different than the woman who raised me. Every word from her mouth is a demand, every opinion is jaded and the manipulation disguised as guilt is unbearable.
But, to the credit of boomers - she raised me and put up with my sh!t for 18 years. I can certainly dismiss and accept the new arrangement.
Your comment is all messed up to me. I know a lot of Baby Boomers. I am one myself (towards the tail end). I don’t know a single “Boomer” who fits this description, not even remotely.
Yet, I do know lots of “Boomers” who still help their kids with expenses. The kids go on fancy vacations and eat out. They have credit card debt out the wazoo. The Boomers stay close to home and cook their own meals, and after years of hard work, have paid off their mortgages.
Your reality and my reality are worlds apart.
