This Isn’t 1991: Why Putin’s Russia is Facing a Different Kind of Collapse
National Security Journal ^ | 8/18/2025 | Reuben Johnson

While the theory that Russia could collapse under the strain of the Ukraine war is popular, a direct comparison to the fall of the USSR is flawed. Unlike the Soviet Union’s final years, which saw a rapid turnover of leadership and liberalizing reforms under Gorbachev, Putin’s Russia is a stable, repressive regime. However, the current system faces its own unique pressures: major state-owned companies like Gazprom are hemorrhaging money, and a rising tide of violent crime from returning convicts is creating deep social instability that could lead to a different kind of collapse.

Wishful thinking. Dictatorships only fall when a large percentage of the population rises up violently. The vast majority of Russians are drunk, depressed, and don’t have a frame of reference for wanting Democracy... especially more of the same Democracy that brought their dictator in anyway.

The National Security Journal is probably a Globalist/Neocon publication that people like the Trilateral Commission contribute to. IMO.

Would be nice.
Even if there’s no peace deal soon;
As long as military age Russians die, the world will be a safer place.

this is basically right, I think. Putin is unassailable personally and politically, and would not leave office even if every other Russian had starved to death.

“state aerospace and defense industrial corporation Rostec with losses of $360 million”

I suspect it will be kept afloat.

Purim’s still kicking himself for spending all that bribery money banking on a Hillary win.

The subtitle is Military and Defense Analysis.

Likely the same boys and girls telling us how all the billions we spent in Iraq had built a strong military.

Nobody knows what the real situation is in Russia. There are a lot of key players who are keeping their own counsel, waiting for an opportunity.

They have a Central Bank, just like the Federal Reserve and Peoples Bank of China and the Bank of England.

Central banks can create money from nothingness.

How do you collapse if you have infinite money? Ben Bernanke quietly asked that question when he did Quantitative Ease.

I suspect you are correct.
I was in the Gulf States during that time.
Russians were welcomed for a bit and they were pouring into Bahrain and Dubai.
But within a few months they were being thrown out.
The whores were given the well known one way boat rides into the Gulf while the men were matched off some where.
In my hotel lobby I witnessed several blooded Russians being dragged off in cuffs and leg ties.
