‘Before the tents, squalor, filth, and Crime, it was the most beautiful Capital in the World. It will soon be that again.’
Saying the American public “is not going to put up with it any longer,” President Donald Trump is now providing some details about cleaning up the nation’s capital city of Washington, D.C.
On Truth Social on Sunday, Trump said a news conference is slated for 10 a.m. Monday in the White House Press Briefing Room to address the matter.
“I’m going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before,” the president began.
“The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don’t have to move out. We’re going to put you in jail where you belong.”
“It’s all going to happen very fast, just like the Border. We went from millions pouring in, to ZERO in the last few months. This will be easier – Be prepared! There will be no “MR. NICE GUY.” We want our Capital BACK.”

When they up the homeless and criminals, they should be blaring Alice Cooper’s “No More Mr. Nice Guy”.
If you can’t keep the capital of your country clean... How else can you say to other cities... Clean up you sh*te!
It starts with the capitals of each state and it needs to permeates from there to the rest of cities and towns. Leading by example goes a long way.
D.C. has always been a miserable swamp.

Dear God, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way this President speaks. No political gobbledegook. No mamby-pamby mush-mouth Democrats or Assistant Democrats. No “If on this hand or on that hand” pablum.
Just plain, easy to understand, simple, declarative, no-nonsense ENGLISH followed up by resolute action.

The British didn’t put it there. The Constitutional Convention agreed to a commission to establish a federal district. The underlying motivation was a capital city somewhere roughly in the border zone between North and South. A committee chose the site.
Too much is made today about George Washington living downstream. As a serious matter, opening the western territories was on everyone’s mind. The Potomac River upstream to Cumberland, MD, then cutting north over the hump to what is today Pittsburgh, was arguably the least bad option for linking the coastal states with the Ohio River watershed.
The Potomac River posed serious navigational issues, Great Falls being the biggest and most familiar obstacle, but a water route was doable with 18th century canal engineering, and its eastern terminus reached tidewater at the old colonial port of Georgetown, MD. George Washington was keen on opening the west. He also knew that route, having served in the Braddock misadventure and then having attempted it again in his own misadventure that ended with his surrender to the French at Fort Necessity, on the approach to today’s Pittsburgh, a strategic point at the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny. He had also been an investor in an early, unsuccessful attempt to build a canal with locks bypassing Great Falls. They ran out of money, making George 0-3 in opening that route, but he was a stubborn guy.
Railroads would change the calculus, but in terms of 18th century canal building, the Potomac River route was the best option if one wanted a border state location for the capital. The only water route that ever developed as an alternative was the Erie Canal, but that had a northern terminus. Aside from being wildly circuitous routes to the eastern seaboard, the St. Lawrence River ran through Canada, and the Mississippi ran through Spanish and French controlled New Orleans and Louisiana until Jefferson made his big buy. Opening the west to water communication put the Potomac River in the lead position.

DC in the 80’s to DC now is an almost completely gentrified city. There are pockets of poverty left, but even areas like Anacostia feature fancy high rise development. The waterfront is gorgeous now, and I’ve bicycled through most of the city and all along the Anacostia river from Maryland, its honestly night and day. Most of the disheveled areas are not where tourists go.
If he can fix anything it would be to wrestle street repair from the DC govt. Potholes still abound in older neighborhoods esp those adjacent to Marylands Prince Georges county.
