President Trump on Thursday toured the Federal Reserve headquarters renovations, which have ballooned over one billion dollars over budget.
Powell is under fire for the cost of renovating the Fed’s DC headquarters. The cost ballooned from $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion. He currently also faces a criminal referral to the Justice Department from Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL).
Trump announced earlier that he was joined by Senator Tim Scott, Senator Thom Tillis, OMB Director Russ Vought, Chairman of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Bill Pulte, my Appointees to the National Capital Planning Commission, James Blair and Will Scharf, and various other construction professionals.
President Trump also said the renovation will actually cost $3.1 billion or more!
Almost immediately after he got in front of the cameras, President Trump called Powell out for going more than one billion over budget. “The 2.7 is now 3.1 [billion],” Trump said.
Powell nodded in disagreement and interrupted, saying, “I’m not aware of that,” and Trump pulled out the receipts with a document from the Fed.

Powell (sneering): What do you know about major building projects?
For sure....It’s not like every President knows not only design and options...but the costs involved...
Trump pulled out receipts....lol
I do not understand how some government employee can just spend money with no procedures. Who approves it?
As usual, Congress is not doing their job of oversight.
As assistant FBI director McCabe bought an $80,000 table for a meeting room. Someone once spent 25,000 on drapes.
Don’t the have a purchase order system that has to be signed off by many like a private company?
Ridiculous.
Fools.
From Google Search
The most expensive stadium renovation in world history is the renovation of Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain, which cost approximately $1.8 billion, according to finance site Yahoo. This renovation included a retractable roof, a retractable field, and a 360° video board, significantly modernizing the historic venue
“”Powell nodded in disagreement””
That’s like “shaking” your head YES and “nodding” your head NO, isn’t it?
Gavin Newsom (satire) : The cost overruns Powell ok’d weren’t even as high as ours by percentage for the high speed rail project. Perfectly understandable. If taxpayers need something we supply it. With more of their money.
That’s starting to remind me of the couch scene in Weekend At Bernie’s.
Fire his wrinkled old ass!
You don’t “nod in disagreement”!!!
“”That’s starting to remind me of the couch scene in Weekend At Bernie’s.””
I never saw that...I’ll have to look it up...
The Govt just rubber stamps these things. Additionally, they are given budgets yearly and if they DONT spend the money, they lose future money. Go figure.
I envy you. Weekend At Bernie’s for the first time.
Ahead of you is one of the great comedy experiences to be had. Hope you saw Hangover,

I know I sound like an Academy Awards summary writer.
Would bet 90% of the Fed workers are working from home. Just another empty useless building!
I’ve always hated that retarded idea. Doesn’t work in the private sector unless the company has gotten too big.
When I managed large hotels we did what we could to cut cost without hurting service.
I never just cut personnel like many do.
ever been in a fed courthouse
fed v state/county
fed has 20 foot ceilings wood paneling brass rails wall sconces
state/county is standard office buildout drywall dropped ceiling florescent lighting
Don't give them any ideas!
From The Onion (May 29, 2002):
WASHINGTON, DC—Calling the current U.S. Capitol “inadequate and obsolete,” Congress will relocate to Charlotte or Memphis if its demands for a new, state-of-the-art facility are not met, leaders announced Monday.
“Don’t get us wrong: We love the drafty old building,” Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) said. “But the hard reality is, it’s no longer suitable for a world-class legislative branch. The sight lines are bad, there aren’t enough concession stands or bathrooms, and the parking is miserable. It hurts to say, but the capitol’s time has come and gone.”
“If we want to stay competitive, we need to upgrade,” said House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt (D-MO), who has proposed a new $3.5 billion capitol on the site of the current edifice. “Look at British Parliament. Look at the Vatican. Respected institutions in their markets. But without modern facilities, they’ve been having big problems attracting top talent.”
...
Demonstrating its commitment to “stay in Washington if at all possible,” Congress has invited more than a dozen architectural firms to submit proposals for a new D.C. capitol. Among the early favorites is the ambitiously titled “Halls Of Power,” a retro-futuristic design by the Kansas City architectural firm of Hellmuth, Obata, and Kassabaum. The Halls Of Power would feature a retractable rotunda for daytime sessions, a Dancing Waters fountain in the front courtyard, and 55 more luxury boxes than the current building.

My work desk at home in my office cost $20 at an estate sale; bought half-off on the second day after it didn’t sell for $40. It’s actually quite a nice older wooden desk. More than nice enough for my purposes.
