The US Air Force is accelerating its B-21 Raider program, with at least two test aircraft expected to be flying by 2026 and capable of being rapidly configured for combat missions if required. This potential for early deployment comes as the US weighs the possibility of future strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Two test aircraft this year moght give hopes of a dozen deployed with upscaled weapons in five years.

Sure, you can one-off anything. But a serviceable half dozon takes trained mechanics, parts supply, trained pilots at a three to one ration, crew chiefs, proper support equipment etcetera. They don’t have a proper simulator that I am aware of in existence. Allow two years for that to be designed and built. (I’ve built them).

If we have to bomb Iran again (unlikely), we can use the B-2s again.

B-21s would seem to bring little advantage to hitting Iran. Aren’t they smaller with less payload than B-2s? Iran isn’t going to be able to defend against anything stealth for a long time.

I hope we are working on satellite platforms that can maneuver to geosynchronous orbit with a stash of moonrocks to deliver. Will make bombers largely obsolete.

I’m shocked they only built 76 FB-111’s.

Australia should sell their FB111s to Israel...and let the IDF/IAF shop for parts at Davis/Monathan at a steep discount.

I’m shocked they only built 76 FB-111’s.

The FB-111 is a specialized version of the F-111.

A total of 563 F-111, including the 76 FB-111 variants were made.

The B-2 rollout was in November 1988. Bush 41 was President-elect and stealth was just coming of age. The B-21 may not be overdue but I think it will eventually have a deserved place in the inventory.
