Air India 171 Update: Fuel Cutoff Switches in 'Cutoff' Position according to WSJ

The Wall Street Journal has just released a report that changes the direction of the Air India 171 investigation. According to sources familiar with the black box data, both fuel cutoff switches were found in the “cutoff” position—meaning the engines were intentionally shut down.

This is a sobering and deeply troubling revelation. In this video, Captain Steeeve takes a measured approach as he walks through what this switch position means, how it affects the engines, and what it might suggest about the final moments of the flight.

Turns out Captain Steeve, besides being a former Navy flight instructor, is a doctorate level counselor. He explains the procedures for cutting off fuel and how the operation of the switches make it impossible for one of them - let alone both - to be inadvertantly or mistakenly moved to the cutoff position.

The fuel was was deliberately shut off. Where are these switches located? Which side - left or right? Anyone know?

Maybe there was a shift change during maintenance and nobody mentioned the switches to the maintenance crew coming on shift?

Maybe , but cycling the fuel cutoffs is part of an emergency engine restart.

One of the anomalies on this flight was that the 787 took up almost all the runway before lift off which could mean engine problems

Need to have the data recorders to verify that fully functional engines were operating at full power before the cut offs were pulled.

Does not look good for sure.

One thing’s for sure....many,many,many people will be doing everything they can to blame Boeing for the crash.

The whole summary, so far, is that the CREW intentionally shut the engines off. This has absolutely nothing to do with Boeing.

Center console just below the throttle quadrant levers. Both pilots had equal access to the switches.

This now looks like a suicide with a lot of people taken along with the perp.
