That’s absolutely not why the fund is in danger—it has to do with the income cap on who pays into Medicare. But frankly they just ought to cut Medicare completely and balance the budget.

The best way to save social security is to stop sending checks when the recipient gets back what they put in. Add a few percent a year for interest to give a few more years. After that they can use investments such as 401K and IRAs to live.
