Beginning June 13, 2025, Operation Rising Lion has centered around the capabilities of Israel’s largely U.S.-made air forces. F-16s, F-35s and the venerable F-15s have opened up the skies over Iran. That enabled a complex campaign targeting Iran’s air defenses, nuclear sites, ballistic missile and drone production, and some of Iran’s mobile missile launchers. They are using 20mm cannons to try to shoot down an F35. That would have to be the luckiest shot in history.
I saw some photos of reinforced hangers at one of the Iranian airfields yesterday. There were small bomb holes through the center of each one, blowing out whatever what stored inside.
That kind of precision is just crazy.
The golden BB effect is a real thing. So there’s that. Also mechanical or electrical failure. Those two could bring down an F35.
The Iranians posted an obvious fake of a downed F35, but Israel has reported no losses.
What’s mightily impressive was the SEAD ability of the Israeli war plan. From SpecOps to EW and everything in between, it was a master class.

Putin must also be taking notes. It’s Russian built anti-aircraft systems that Israel has defeated. F35s patrolling Ukraine airspace could control the airspace over Russian forces in Ukraine which would allow Ukrainian F16s to provide ground support. Not a deciding factor, but certainly tipping the scales in Ukraine’s favor without any US soldiers in Ukraine.

As for the F-35, its the gold standard for Strike Aircraft today. It could undertake missions in any theater.
