As Dems Fearmonger Over Medicaid, Dr. Oz Reveals the Staggering Amount of Waste and Fraud in the Program

Democrats are busy fearmongering and predicting widespread tragedy that would emanate from the “Big Beautiful Bill” if it passes, but they should maybe think about taking a deep breath and listening to what Dr. Mehmet Oz has to say.

They claim that the evil GOP wants to take away healthcare for the elderly and the disadvantaged with the measure, but Republicans counter that what they are really trying to do is get rid of the eye-opening waste and fraud that programs like Medicaid and Medicare are victims of.

And there’s a whole lot of grift going on, according to Oz, the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the Trump administration. Appearing on “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo, he said there’s at least $14 billion in fraudulent activity in Medicaid alone:

"There's about $14 billion we've identified with DOGE, of folks who are duly enrolled wrongly in multiple states for Medicaid," Oz said on this week's "Sunday Morning Futures."

"You live in New Jersey, but you move to Pennsylvania, and which state gets your Medicaid? Turns out both states collect money from the federal government."

The CBO Strikes Again, Makes Ridiculous 'Projection' About GOP Reconciliation Bill

Oz continued, saying the reforms being considered are not intended to hurt those who legitimately rely on the programs—they’re intended to help them:

Oz... urged that Medicaid be "clean[ed] up" so it serves the people it was initially designed to assist – those at the dawn or twilight of their life, those "living in the shadows," and those with disabilities who are unable to receive access to care because of others "clawing at the cloth" of the system.

As our Nick Arama wrote earlier Sunday, House Speaker Mike Johnson relayed a similar message:

Johnson torpedoed the Democratic narrative about cutting Medicaid, saying that wasn't happening: "There's a lot of misinformation out there."

What Republicans were doing, he said, was ensuring there wasn't fraud, that it would not be going to illegal aliens and to able-bodied individuals who it wasn't supposed to be for.

You know that is going to make Democrats lose their minds, but cutting fraud, waste, and abuse isn't "cutting" -- indeed, it's ensuring that the program remains viable for the people who do qualify for it. Medicaid isn't intended for the 1.4 million illegal aliens who are on it, Johnson noted; it's supposed to be for our citizens who need it.

None of that will stop Democrats from whining, though, because waste, fraud and abuse are just fine with them if anyone in the Trump administration is trying to eliminate it:

President Biden warned about the Republican’s plans to cut Medicaid,Medicare,Snap and other programs and the Republicans tried to make him look like a liar, but now they proved he was right and they are Liars! 😡😡😡 pic.twitter.com/SWeLvFUXMf— Suzie rizzio (@Suzierizzo1) May 25, 2025

The Democrats are more than happy to live with $14 billion in fraud in one program alone if it means stopping Trump from getting a victory.

Waste, fraud and abuse of the taxpayers’ money is how politicians become multimillionaires. They’re not going to give that up without a fight.

Towards the end of my 46 year medical career I quit working in ER’s because they had become immediate cares for Medicaid losers.

I glance over the claim reports that Medicare sends out. About a year ago, I saw a claim north of $100,000 from a provider I didn't recognize. Called Medicare to report the false charge.

I was told that the claim was part of a fraud action, and would be removed when the court case was completed. "When?" "Who knows. Don't worry about it."

“... Medicaid isn’t intended for the 1.4 million illegal aliens who are on it, Johnson noted; it’s supposed to be for our citizens who need it....”

When does Joe Wilson get an apology for calling Obama a liar, when he said that illegal aliens will never get Obama Care?

Most of the recent articles I have seen in newspapers are Apples to Oranges comparisons. Locally, they have said that Medicaid funds Kidney dialysis, it funds prenatal health of young single mothers, it funds mental health care, it funds all kinds of things, which are true..........but none of that for citizens or those capable of working are to be cut under the proposed bills.

So the talking point is all the wonderful things that Medicaid does and that evil Republicans are going to cut so much money from Medicaid without ever focusing on where the cuts are to take place.

Another thing often overlooked is State expansion of Medicaid with the expectation that the federal government will always and forever and ever pay for the state expansion of the basic federal program.
