The Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated $30 million toward a jobs program designed to help work-eligible households transition into employment. Despite the funding, nearly 50 percent of HUD-assisted households that qualify for work have no employed members, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the initiative.
Federal officials launched the program with the expectation that it would increase workforce participation among low-income families receiving housing assistance. The plan included job training, placement services, and financial incentives aimed at encouraging employment. However, participation rates have remained shockingly low, with many recipients choosing not to engage in the program.

For able bodied-people, the choice should be (1) work, or (2) pay for your own housing and food. The taxpayers are tired of supporting you.

Mission and Vision
The mission of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes; utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; and build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination.
You have to have a stronger stick for these freeloaders - make public work, cleaning up the highways, parks, etc., painting over graffiti, etc. as a condition of receiving Section 8 Housing and EBT cards.
You can have quality or you can have affordable in many parts of the country—no way you can have both.
Therefore the mission is doomed to failure.
Every Section 8 applicant for one of my rentals is purposely not working full time to retain their benefits for DECADES!
One newly minted S8 applicant stole her grandma’s identity (they have the same name) so that her credit score would look better (but not by much—granny’s wasn’t so great and S8’s was abysmal, as usual)
Every Section 8 applicant has had TERRIBLE previous landlord references as well. It’s time to cut to the bone!
BINGO! The only people that will take the risk on these low performing tenants are slumlords. I say this as a small landlord who takes great pride in our beautifully rehabbed units and won’t rent to the dregs. Would rather it go vacant for months on end.
Let’s look over the choice here:
I gets to sleep in till noon now, hang around with my pals till 6PM mostly selling drugs or laying up with my soul mate, then head out for the evenings fun and games till whenever till I drop back in my rack.
Or, getting up a 7, getting presentable for work and getting there by 8. Working a full 8 hour day. Heading home around 5. Having dinner and decompressing from work day. Maybe spend some time with friends or cohorts but making sure back home before midnight to get a decent night rest. Hum... I take door one Dems.
Excellent analysis.
Doing drugs at night while having a day job is possible—but very difficult.
Sleeping in is a much better alternative.
Of 20 million illegal immigrants
1 million are DUI, Drunk and Disorderly or worse.
5 million are children
1 million adults don’t work
2 million adults pick up jobs infront of Home Depot.
11 million work and and decent people.
Could we do an exchange program? In lieu of sending back decent illegals can we send abroad born-in-the-USA-disasters?
“ The plan included job training, placement services, and financial incentives aimed at encouraging employment. ”
Well if it worked, maybe not the worst way to spend money.
It’s got all the UN buzzwords. No good.
