Wait. Why did a pregnant woman get appointed as US Surgeon General?
Are we serious about these nominations?
Women take maternity leave.
So we have a US Surgeon General who will soon be on maternity leave?
Can she even do her job?

“Why is Casey Means a terrible appointment?”
I don’t recall every specific issue, as I was in the middle of cooking when the topic was discussed on TV. Each thing I heard raised a red flag. It was in the context of her and her brother. The strong implication was that they’re charlatans pushing voodoo treatment. Her medical license isn’t active; she isn’t in the medical profession now except for “alternative medicine”.
Nicole Shanahan, a (prior?) big lib who became partially red pilled last year, told RFK she would run as his VP, but only if he dropped ties with the Means. He must have done that for a period of time, since NS did run as his VP.
Of course, every reporter on TV has his own bias, so I don’t know what’s true — just what’s been reported.
Supposedly, she’s a proponent of talking to trees for medical reasons. Nothing wrong with talking to trees and flowers, but probably not in a medical context.
Anyhow, that’s what I recall, FWIW. At least Surgeon General seems to be a ridiculous position, so if she IS bad, then maybe minimal harm will be done. If she’s good, then we win.
Someone who didn't sacrifice her baby on the altar of progressivism to advance her career.
The leftists have to hate someone who chose to carry their child to term and deliver it and still be a working woman at a high level job.
Proof positive you DON'T have to murder your child to get ahead.
You and I have tangled, and while you have good motivations, you could definitely work on your people skills. I don’t think you deserve a permanent ban, but on the whole, you add a unique perspective to the forum. I’d welcome you back after your timeout.
IATZ....
Missed all the fun but the thread was well worth perusing.
Yeah, Redneck can be a dick. But so could have I, back in the day. I think I mellowed. 😊
No great loss either. He did not play well with others.
Back in the day. I remember back in the day how many times you got put in time out. Once a month or more?
I remember taglines “Free Laz”
I’ve heard her in interviews and considering what I’ve come to learn about the medical community through Covid and personal experience, I can appreciate her reasons for leaving practicing surgery.
Her big complaint was that the who medical establishment’s focus is on treatment and nobody is trying to figure out WHY people are becoming so sick and how to prevent that. She attributes it to the fact that there’s too much money to be made in constantly treating people instead of seeing if they can figure out some way to get them healthy so they don’t need surgery or lifelong prescriptions.
The current stuff going on with ozempic is the perfect example. So much of Type 2 diabetes is diet, is a result of a poor diet and therefore weight gain, and yet the current FDA guidelines/food pyramid, or whatever they’re using these days, actually makes the problem worse.
And it’s my understanding that even these days, nutrition and health is simply barely addressed in med school.
You cannot eat crap food all the time and sit in front of a computer hours per day and expect to be healthy.
I can’t say as I disagree with her.
And besides, considering that licensing has been tied to toeing the party line rather than actual performance, is her lack of license an actual indicator of qualifications or not?
“Pregnancy is a qualifier for a position like this if anything.”
I won’t post my opinion of pregnant co-workers and working mothers, based on 50 years in the workforce. Basically, work or be a mother; choose one.
Yeah. The entire medical field now is a travesty.
If she’s legit, and can facilitate positive changes, then I’m 100% for that.
What I heard was one person’s opinion, and it appears that RFK has a different one. Hope it all works out for the best in the end.
“The woman in question can work from home”
Is that fair to non-pregnant ladies who aren’t given that option?
“Because she is the best choice”
You know this how? Others have a different opinion.
Maternity leave is not mandatory.
“She needs a job, hobby or a husband. Why hasn’t she had a baby at her old age?”
She needs a job, hobby, husband and children? Really?
Maybe her job/hobby is exposing corruption and unsavory facts about the enemy.
Wildcard obviously had major butthurt about the OP, but I don’t see anything so awful about the post. Any idea what the problem was?
“Laura, sexist much?”
What you call “sexist” now is what was normal back when America was civilized society.
“I saw Casey Means ONCE and was APPALLED!”
I’ve never seen or heard her, but what I’ve heard about her and her brother was not flattering in any way.
I guess we shall see...
He was a nasty nutter who was always lashing out and attacking, and crazy as a loon, he was doing this rant on several threads at the same time, not just this one, many of his posts were removed.

These days if someone tells me someone is a *real doctor* my first inclinations is to think *So what????*.
I’ve had doctors who range from phenomenal to *How the heck did they get into medical school, much less out of it?*
Being credentialed these days in my book means being really good at toeing the party line. It is no reflection at all on their ability to practice medicine.
