Newsom’s Failed Leadership & Another Refinery Is Forced to Close
Independent Sentinel ^ | April 26, 2025 | M DOWLING

Posted on 04/28/2025 4:10:53 AM PDT by Red Badger

Governor Newsom is causing another refinery to go down. Valero refinery is considering shutting down. It threatens to throw the inhabitants of the small city of Benicia into unemployment and poverty. Valero is planning to shut down next April instead of selling. No one wants to buy it.

The Benicia Mayor said the plant brings in millions of dollars.

No one wants to buy the plant because it would require a significant amount of money to keep it going. The state of California doesn’t want refiners in its state. They’ve pushed them out, and this is the result.

Newsom doesn’t want refiners, and, as expected, the number of gas refiners is dwindling, leading to increasing gas prices.

Valero warned for some time that the prices were too high, and the regulations too oppressive.

Valero is the newest refinery on the West Coast, bringing a significant amount of gas to the California market.

Why would anybody buy and try to run a refinery in CA where everything is regulated and taxed to death.

Every day the politicians, at the insistence of those who voted them into office, bring CA closer to a Mad Max reality.

Almost all of California’s woes and misfortunes are self-induced. Blessed with a largely benign climate and vast resources of every kind, the land was turned into a virtual cornucopia as the erratic supply of agricultural water was supplemented with a vast network of holding dams and distribution canals, permitting virtually year-round cultivation in the vast long valley from north of Sacramento. down through the San Joaquin, and extending into the Imperial Valley on the Mexican border. California became the breadbasket of the western part of North America and was for years a huge exporter of agricultural products. Add to that the mineral wealth, from gold to petroleum, that lay beneath the surface of the land, and all the framework of a prosperous and wholly self-sufficient republic was in place.

But the benign climate also attracted a certain class of people who never in their lives did one thing in any way productive or beneficial. Exploiters from the beginning, they raped the land, stripping away great stretches of the scenic beauty, and pandered to the lowest tastes of others, then with their ill-gained wealth, proceeded to lay down rules for newcomers meant to perpetuate themselves in positions of power for generations. Cloistered in their palatial residences, and isolated from the common folk, they dreamed up many expensive and useless baubles to show off their ostentatious life style, and imposed rules that shut off the very sources of the wealth that fed that reckless life style. The coastal cities demanded, and got, a goodly supply of the water that had been supporting the agricultural empire, and when that was not enough, blew up the dams and reservoirs of water, exacerbating the already scanty reserves of water and power generation. The air was dirty, so automobiles had to undergo an extensive re-engineering to comply with the new rules. An artificial scarcity was forced upon the overall economy, forcing prices of real estate and most commodities to stratospheric levels. To pay for all this, taxes were raised to confiscatory levels, so finally, the remains of what was once the middle class began leaving California in droves. Everything was on the wrong end for any kind of economic growth.

California is on the road to become Afghanistan, the Venezuela of North America on its way down.

I have zero sympathy for California’s water issues.

Most of the state’s population lives within fifty miles of the ocean.

Desalination technology has been available for decades.

A committee of apes could have figured out what that meant.

A damn shame for sure. Where greed and selfishness rules. Now crap all over the cities, wildfires due to no preventative measures, water cut off from farms, overburdened powerplants causing brownouts and power failures, ridiculous mandates, etc., The list is so long of stupid policies. Once a great state, now billions in debt.

Easy Fix to help the citizens:

A citizens initiative prohibiting TAXPAYER funds from being used to purchase ANY Petroleum Product for ANY reason.

Saving the Gasoline for the public, then Newscum and his pals can show the world how to live without evil petroleum products.

Gas taxes are about to go up again July 1st - and with refineries closing, gas is likely to hit $6.60/gallon. As of this morning, it’s around $4.89/gallon.

Newsom’s goal (as he’s driven around in a three-gas-powered-limo caravan) is to get people out of gas driven cars and onto public transportation (which is horrible, dirty and dangerous in Los Angeles and San Francisco) - or to buy EVs, which people are buying fewer of b/c of the hassle/cost associated with them.

Yet idiots will continue to vote for Newsom or his clone.
