I’m wondering if the defendant’s lawyer could also be charged as aiding and abetting a fugitive. Although probably not worth the effort such a charge might just be throwing chaff into the fight. But still, he knew what the judge did was illegal and went along. That’s probably at least worth a firm, nonsense slap on the wrist. Where’s a Catholic nun when you need one?

Lawyers are expected to do what the judge tells them in a courtroom. I think that would be hard, although there were other people in the courtroom at the time, including a prosecutor. It's normal for the judge to have attorneys or maybe a party in chambers. Assisting an illegal, who is accused of a crime, escape ICE is not anything normal. People can file complaints against the attorney with the state bar and develop the record of what the attorney knew and when he knew it. If he starts taking the Fifth, he/she could face disciplinary action.

This judge is accused of conduct that has resulted in charges for other citizens. The judicial robe is not some form of invisibility cloak that allows judges to engage in alleged criminal acts.

Did anyone recognize the similarity of this story with the second episode of the defunct CBS TV drama All Rise from 2019?

In the second episode titled Long Day's Journey into ICE, an ICE agent enters the courtroom of series leading character Judge Lola Carmichael's courtroom (played by actress Simone Missick) to apprehend an illegal alien defendant. Judge Carmichael helps the defendant to escape from the ICE agent by guiding him out of a back door of the courtroom.
