Democrats are waking up to the reality that while they used to operate with a monopoly on “trust,” even their voters are tuning out.
Axios published a piece that felt like an obituary detailing how “America’s obsession with countering mis- and disinformation has withered as society grows skeptical of institutions once trusted with facts.” For years, the left controlled “professional fact-checking,” using it to control speech and approved narratives. Even the federal government was a part of the game by creating backdoors into social media companies to restrain Americans from posting unapproved thoughts.
Still, Axios seems confused about why institutions like liberal media and public schools are experiencing record-low trust levels among Americans.
“Americans are less enthusiastic about policing information today than they were two years ago, and the trend is bipartisan,” the outlet complains.
CNN “fact checker” @ddale8 should actually CHECK HIS FACTs before going on live national television after my RNC speech and questioning my credibility about Biden‘s electric tanks! pic.twitter.com/mPx9Sm4RiZ— Mike Waltz (@michaelgwaltz) July 19, 2024
Whether it was COVID, illegal immigration, the economy, Biden’s mental health, or anything President Donald Trump-related, the so-called fact-checking almost always benefited one side: the left. Democrats enjoyed a practically free rein to say or publish whatever verifiable falsehood they wanted without having to worry about the information czars labeling them as liars. After a while, no matter which side you are on, it’s hard not to notice the hypocrisy.
Now, Democrats are staring down the reality that their once powerful weapon has been dismantled. They are living in a nightmare of their own making, being forced to watch as Trump’s popularity grows and their “monopoly on trust” breaks apart.
Americans are far more likely to trust information from the Trump administration than they are from liberal media, according to a February YouGov poll. About 44 percent of U.S. citizens said they believe the Trump administration “a great deal” or a “fair amount,” compared to just 28 percent who said the same about the media class.
To make matters worse for Democrats, their voters’ previous zeal for the federal government to crack down on “false information” online has significantly dropped, according to Pew Research Center’s new survey. It found that in 2023, around 70 percent of Democrats wanted the government to restrict speech they disagreed with online; that number decreased to about 58 percent in 2025, who hold the same view.

It turns out that if you try to force opinions about topics that directly affect millions of people without allowing a robust debate, people will start viewing you as the “bad guy.” Americans don’t trust Democrats or the media, who are experiencing historically low approval ratings, because of the way they used their version of the truth as a cudgel to beat their fellow citizens into submitting to a left-wing religion that is antithetical to their way of life.
Americans now trust Trump more than they trust Democrats or the media. It is impossible to predict how long this political shift will last. However, their battle plan to beat Trump using narrative control is currently untenable. Maybe they should try telling the American people the truth.
BTTT
Kinda depends on who the ‘decider’ is of mis/dis information. Who made that bunch the boss?
Except for leftist judges, they do what they want and tow the lib line.
The 20 foot tall Evil Genie of Doubt and Mistrust has been let out of the bottle. He stands glaring and Vincent Price laughing at all who remain naive and trusting. He’s not going back into that container any time soon.
Reminds me of Alice in Wonderland at the trial and the jury is composed of various animals and birds, collectively referred to as “creatures.”
Alice notes that some are animals and others are birds, indicating a diverse group of characters serving as jurors. The jury diligently writes down their names to remember them, as they fear forgetting by the end of the trial. Additionally, Alice accidentally upsets the jury box, causing the jurors to fall, and she must quickly right the lizard that was placed head-downward during the commotion.
IF the Dim’s were smart (that is a BIG IF) they would just let their marxist judges do the dirty work as these judges are as untouchable as it gets with our spineless GOP congress. Then just sit back and let their own DNC sponsored media cohorts report what these judges are ruling and keep their collective mouths shut. THEN wait to see if it gets any traction without making fools of themselves crying from the mountaintop “due process, due process, due process”. But they cannot help themselves, so it is sweet to watch them self destruct!
“Americans are less enthusiastic about policing information today than they were two years ago, and the trend is bipartisan,” the outlet complains.
Well..”Americans” never policed information. The left policed information via government pressure and pressure applied through grifting NGOs. The left went beyond restricting speech they didnt like to subsidizing the speech they did like viatheir monopoly on government funded NGOs
What the outlet is complaining about is that Americans are no longer submitting to the policing and subsidizing of information by the government-media-NGO-complex.
What’s that Sun Tzu’s quote about if the enemy is doing it all wrong, don’t interfere?
They know they can't tell the truth if they want to get elected, even in liberal strongholds. They have to sell semi-palatable lies.
The phrase “never interfere with an enemy while he is in the process of destroying himself” is often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte, though its exact origin and authenticity are debated.
Variations of the quote include “never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake” and “when your opponent is making a false move, it is wise not to disturb him.” These sayings suggest that it is strategically wise to allow an enemy to self-destruct rather than intervening, as this can lead to a more decisive defeat......................
Bkmk
Two years ago 70% of democrats wanting free speech stifled versus 58% now...
That still leaves too many domestic enemies of the Constitution.
Just the other day James Clyburn (D,SC) complained the MSM echo chamber that Democrats depended on is failing. Hey, they cried wolf once too often.
I think the “It’s only a handful of apartments [taken over by the illegals]” was a big turning point / eye opener...
Ahh, thanks I was just winging it. Appears maybe that quote has been handed down through generations of strategic generals
“Maybe they should try telling the American people the truth.”

Not going to happen. The Truth is clearly their greatest enemy.
