Key Points
Stellantis is pausing production at two assembly plants in Canada and Mexico as the company attempts to navigate President Donald Trump’s new round of 25% automotive tariffs.
The actions will result in roughly 900 U.S.-represented employees at supporting plants getting temporarily laid off in addition to roughly 4,500 hourly workers at the Canadian plant.

It’s not due to tariffs. They have the largest inventory of unsold vehicles.

But that’s the excuse they use to blame Trump.
Our local Dodge dealer has so many cars and trucks they have to store them off site in vacant parking lots................
And they’re mostly not cars, they’re giant pump-sucking trucks. The dealer here in The Boonies has been receiving the deliveries all model year, they’re just not selling.
Also, Stellantis had done some furloughs in the US. When Trump suggested politely that they resume production, Stellantis didn’t start producing sedans though. We should let Pritzer claim credit for the resumption of guzzlers, it’s good for his “climate change” rep. :^)

Stellantis knows the tariffs are going to cut into their USA sales, so they don’t want to add to that existing large inventory of unsold vehicles.
So I’d argue the tariffs broke the camel’s back.
Internal pressure will now mount on the Mexican and Canadian governments to reduce their tariffs on imported cars from the USA and get their people back to work. That’s WINNING!
What is a US represented employee?
UNION...............
They make crap. Why Ram had a cult following in New Mexico is beyond me, but their drivers are more likely to be jerks.
Part of the problem is insurance on sedans is higher..........
A lot of countries who are beating their chest over Trump’s Tariffs are in the process of FAFO. The FA’d with the US since the end of WW II, sending us everything and taking nothing in return.
At one time that might have made sense, but that time has long since passed, it’s now time reorder the international trading order.
The FO part will be when governments around the world get thrown out office either at the ballot box or thru some type of revolution, when their economies which were built on sending tons of stuff to the US all of sudden aren’t sending that same stuff and they enter a depression.
Same here...................
I have a 2018 Jeep Wrangler.....it’s a blast to drive but the quality however, is questionable to say the least.....and I hear the newer ones are even worse.
Also, “death wobble” is a real common problem with Wranglers and Stellantis refuses to admit it.
Same in Alaska. Road ragers all seem to drive lifted Ram trucks. And they are junk with seriously low payload levels. I tow and Ram just doesn't have the payload capacity or the towing technology that my GMC has.
My daughter and her husband have one too.............
Yep. The car industry is in a bad way right now. I would not touch any car made since Covid broke - new or used. I own four cars, the newest of which is 2017. They are all doing fine.
My wife and I do a fair number of long distance driving trips, but now we tend to just rent cars for those trips. Other than cost, it brings many advantages.
Correct...they are very close to bankruptcy thanks to their moronic investment in EV.
That’s what a lot of people don’t get.....and the lib media refuses to say.....tariffs are nothing more than a tool to gain leverage and level the unbelievably lopsided trade practices with the US always on the short end.
The globalists on Wall Street are having a tamper tantrum.
Oh how cute the tantrums can be.
