A recent report indicates that Mike Waltz, President Donald J. Trump‘s National Security Advisor, had left his Venmo account openly accessible to the public. This revelation adds to the growing controversy surrounding his involvement in a group chat that allegedly leaked sensitive military strategies to the media. Waltz’s Venmo profile, bearing his image, was accessible until it was set to private Wednesday after numerous media inquiries.
The account’s public friend list contained 328 individuals, including figures such as Walker Barrett of the National Security Council and Susie Wiles, chief of staff at the White House. Both Barrett and Wiles were mentioned in connection with a Signal messaging group where planning for a U.S. military operation in Yemen was reportedly leaked, stirring significant concern in the capital. Politicians, including Congressman Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), and media figures, like Bret Baier, were also among Waltz’s connections on the app.
Amid an intense response from Washington’s political circles, Waltz accepted full accountability for the controversy, despite President Trump’s statement suggesting a “lower level” staff member had caused the issue. Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill have called for the resignations of both Waltz and Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense who shared the allegedly sensitive information regarding airstrike schedules.
Following the inquiry by reporters, Waltz and Wiles opted to set their Venmo accounts to private. The exposure of private dealings and a chain of high-profile political and media figures attests to potential vulnerabilities in maintaining security and privacy in digital spaces. The incident has triggered demands for stricter oversight and accountability in data and operational security, highlighting the complexities faced by those in governmental advisory roles.

People don’t use Venmo as a contact app. It goes into your contact list and automatically lists anyone on your contact list who also has Venmo. You can choose a private setting so that outsiders can’t see you but you would be shocked at how many people don’t select this setting. I was amazed at the lawyers, doctors and friends in my contacts never set their Venmo app to private. In addition it also shows who they paid money to, how much they paid and it shows the memo that they attached to the payment.
What happens is that you have a contact list on your phone and every time you add an app it tries to suck in all of your contacts from every other app you have. I have lots of contacts on my phone of people I spoke to once and don’t intend to speak to again, but I put their name against their number so I would recognize the caller and I can take it or ignore it at will.
This is all a huge problem, but this is what happens when Big Tech, Big finance and advertising the deepstate corruptocracy and their current bought political representatives write processes and laws to protect your privacy.
Wow. I don’t use it so didn’t know.
Maybe it’s a setting no one thinks about or sees.
That’s weird.
Oh, thanks
Not all picks are good picks.
Hegseth isn’t going down.
The only guy that would be out would be the neocon Waltz, which isn’t happening because the President just backed him up.
I doubt Waltz will last 4 years and he’ll eventually join Bolton doing globalistic/militaristic think tank ‘work.’
I was at a briefing by the cybersecurity group at MIT and they said when they did audits of organizations it was invariably the higher ups (c level) who clicked on the links that were explicitly labeled “Don’t click on this link”.
Folks need to stop hyperventilating and realize that this is a societal problem. Fixing it will engage the enmity of the advertising industry that earns gazillions over target advertising. I do a lot of carpentry and metal work and I sort of enjoy the targeted adverts on the latest measuring tool or cutting jig being offered, so there are pluses and minuses to all of it.
Right. If you or I downloaded Venmo to pay one person and accepted all the defaults, all of our contacts would be linked, like it or not. I don’t recall if they’d be public or not. This is a nothing burger except to point out that Mr. Waltz needs to have a trusted assistant comb, through his apps and be more careful. It is not clear whether Venmo is on the phone he used for the infamous call. Hopefully it’s not. Before calling for his head on a platter, think about Bolton, McMaster et al. Trump must be happy with what he’s getting
Exactly ! There is no reason in the world to have MAGA-hating NeoCons like Goldberg on speed-dial.
Too many RINOs still want to suck up to Establishment media. They can’t help themselves. They just crave approval from Elites.
Why not put David Frum on speed-dial? He also writes for the Altantic, and his attitude to Trump and MAGA is much the same as Goldberg.
Fire him immediately.
wow.
An ethical person(notjeff) would jump off as soon as they realize it’s not intended for them.
Sounds like Waltz does a lot of Waltzing with Trump’s ENEMIES.
His days (in office) are numbered.
Not surprising, many here are falling for that crap.
Did Waltz get 13 US troops killed? Did he leave $85B of armaments in Afghanistan? Did he go AWOL in the hospital for two weeks? Didn’t think so.
I am well aware of the General Flynn example, but for Chrissakes! Are reporters sending Waltz money?
I give this 48 hours to be over, one way or another.
1. Signal, at least in part, has Democrats/antiTrump people populating its Board of Directors. Why are we using them?
2. Goldberg, if had scintilla of patriotism, would have notified the White House the instant he realized that he was on a national policy meeting. But of course, he didn’t.
I am reminded of the case of a Chicago reporter in 1942 that reported that US subs were escaping because the Japanese were setting their depth charges too shallowly. The Japanese read that article and began to set their depth charges deeper and began to kill our young men in earnest.
Both he and his editors should have been shot.
Goldberg is journalist, the dumbass can’t even spell ethics
