Ezra Klein suggested that Democratic assumptions about youth support have proven 'completely false' amid President Donald Trump's return to power
New York Times columnist Ezra Klein spoke with a Democratic pollster Tuesday about how the dream of an ascendant Democratic majority is imploding as younger voters, especially White men, flee the party.
Klein interviewed David Shor, the head of data science at Blue Rose Research, a Democratic polling firm, for his podcast in an episode titled "Democrats Need to Face Why Trump Won."
When Klein and Shor reviewed numerous charts, including one headlined, "2024 Democratic Support by Age – Split by Race and Gender," the pollster explained that in this chart in particular, "One thing you can notice is that among 18-year-olds, women of color are the only of the four [race and gender demographic groups] that Harris won. Trump narrowly won nonwhite men."
The Times columnist seized on one "shocking" finding in the data that defies one of the Democratic Party’s core beliefs.
"I find this part of this chart shocking. I sometimes talk about narrative violations, and if we knew anything about Donald Trump eight years ago, it was that young people didn’t like him. And Republicans had been maybe throwing away young people for generations in order to run up their margins among seniors," Klein said. "But if you look at this chart, 75-year-old White men supported Kamala Harris at a significantly higher rate than 20-year-old White men."

Charlie Kirk and Steven Crowder and others have done good work no doubt. A big part of it is generational though. Look at that chart and the bends in it for everybody but especially for White men. What do you notice?
Look at the ages. You see the Baby Boomers leaned pretty hard left as a whole. Gen X is much more to the right. Then the Millenials who are the children of Boomers leaned left again about in line with their parents. Then Gen Z who are the children of Gen X lean much harder to the right.
In my own life, I have Baby Boomer siblings who vote Democrat. I’m a Gen Xer and I and my lifelong friends who are the same age as I, all vote Republican.
Watching Charlie Kirk wade into the lion’s den of college campuses and talk to students, some of whom are colossally ignorant but damn aggressive and self-assured in their ignorance, is a sight to behold. He is an impressive and courageous young man.
Trump’s victory was enough to make it impossible for the opposition to make it look like Harris won. They just couldn’t cheat enough. It’s as simple as that. Who would you credit for any votes for Trump that were not counted for Trump and how could they be verified as such?
“Gen Z”? Democrats deliberately drove them away by telling them they had no future.
This is the first generation that has actually been hearing the truth because there are so many other ways of getting information besides the legacy media. The legacy media has been lying and distorting everything about conservatives. They no longer have much power.
