Trump’s Diplomatic Pincer Crushes Zelenskyy’s Delusions and Putin’s Ambitions

Donald Trump is a peace maker by nature. He is not a war monger. He seeks an end to the Ukraine/Russia conflict while democrats want it to go on forever.

The arrogant and pompous Volodymyr Zelenskyy keeps making things difficult. One day he says the war can go on for years and the next day claims he's ready to negotiate an end. It's hard to keep up. Putin is Putin. Both are largely intractable.

After Zelenskyy's showboating at the White House I remarked in a few venues that I would not be surprised to see Putin ramp up the war, and that is exactly what happened yesterday.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia attacked Ukrainian energy facilities with dozens of missiles and drones during the night, officials said Friday, hobbling the country’s ability to deliver heat and light to its citizens and to power weapons factories vital to its defenses.

The overnight barrage — which also pounded residences and wounded at least 10 people — came days after the U.S. suspended military aid and intelligence to Ukraine to pressure it into accepting a peace deal being pushed by the Trump administration. Without U.S. intelligence, Ukraine’s ability to strike inside Russia and defend itself from bombardment is significantly diminished.

Zelenskyy at one point said Ukraine was ready to go it alone. Putin sent a message.

Trump wants a settlement, which is inevitable. Zelenskyy, boosted by democrats who have no skin in the game, was holding out but now has finally (maybe) seen the light and relented. He now claims to seek a truce as a first step in terminating the conflict.

He best take a deal. Ukraine is losing the war and it is running out of bodies. Fighting aged men have left the country and Ukraine is conducting conscription raids to scoop us unwilling soldiers. PM Keir Starmer of England says he's ready to put soldiers on the ground in Ukraine. Good luck with that.

To nudge Zelenskyy to accept a deal, Trump has paused both munitions and intelligence to Ukraine.

But Russia's new aggression has displeased Trump. Trump has threatened a new wave of sanctions

This is a notable change in AP’s tone:

“and to power weapons factories”

Both sides are losing the war.

It is a stalemate. Both sides are losing significant numbers of men and material, with losses to significant infrastructure.

Without US aid, I doubt Ukraine can hold out much longer. With US aid, they can probably hold out a long time, maybe even prevail.

Best to end the war quickly, as President Trump is attemting to do.

The major winner in this war is China.

Has anyone asked Starmer “when will those boots arrive?”

After Zelenskyy’s temper tantrum in the WH......what next?

“I’m finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine — and they don’t have the cards,” says @POTUS .

“We’re trying to help them and Ukraine has to get on the ball and get a job done.”

“I find that in terms of getting a final settlement it may be easier dealing with Russia which is surprising because they have all the cards...”

Yes, but the writer needs to learn the difference between a "democrat" and a "Democrat".

“Putin’s Ambitions”

Not sure what they’re imagining regarding “Putin’s Ambitions” but the Russian GOVERNMENT requires that the additional 4 provinces be fully liberated. Either Ukraine will agree to cede those regions or Russia will continue on, at least to Odessa and Kharkov. Trump’s ‘tough’ sanctions threats are empty...Biden and the Chihuahuas in Europe already exhausted all possible sanctions...anything more harms Europe 10-fold over any potential harm to Russia.

I guess Trump can declare war on Russia, but Trump isn’t really into WW3 (sorry Zeepers) and anything that Europe does on their own will be crushed like gnats. About the only military option for Trump is to continue to dispose of more and more weapons in Ukraine, but I doubt he’s very hot on that either as Hegseth is still trying to figure out if we have anything left at this point - and the end-result is still the same for Russia - meeting its objectives.

It is not a stalemate. Russia is fighting a war of attrition with four times as many troop as Ukraine. Russia is prevailing as Ukraine runs out of troops.

The Russian GOVERNMENT will accept whatever Putin tells them to accept. They follow Putin’s orders, not the other way around. Right now we are in the negotiations phase and President Trump holds more cards and is a better negotiator than you are willing to admit.

Don’t tell me you actually believe that the Russian GOVERNMENT controls Putin? That’s a special kind of precious.

Btw, by “GOVERNMENT” I assume you mean the Federal Assembly (Russia’s legislature) and not the official Federal Government, which is an executive body, consisting of the Prime Minister and federal ministers, and is appointed by the President. Otherwise you are suggesting that the Russian President is subservient to the officials he appointed. I gave you the benefit of doubt that you wouldn’t make such an obvious mistake.

Demanding the transfer of over 900,000 people in northern Zaporizhzhia to Russia despite not a single pair of pro Russian boots having made it into that half of the Oblast in three years?

The Russians have another credibility issue. They wanted the USA to expel NATO members from NATO... That’s what the memo in December 2021 said and no matter how many times it’s beenexplained to Moscow that there is no mechanism allowing the USA to do it, Moscow still maintains this as a red line.

Russia’s objectives are to leave Eastern Europe totally undefended by NATO or Europe. If you can think of a single rational reason for demanding that, which doesn’t involve “so we can invade them without any serious opposition”, let’s hear it.
