Walberg: People who can't afford a $200 Passport, "they shouldn't be voting" (audio)

Friday, February 21, 2025 Walberg: People who can't afford a $200 Passport, "they shouldn't be voting" (audio)

Link to Audio: https://youtu.be/0nyXqHWegxs

A constituent provided me raw audio of Walberg's event in Bedford Township yesterday, and gave me permission to share it publicly. I have posted it unedited to YouTube (link above) against a background photo that was also taken at that event, with a portion of my transcript of a standout moment from that event.

I think Walberg is getting worse. He's incredibly rude to constituents throughout that audio. Walberg says grotesque, divisive, and cruel things constantly. He says nonsensical things too, such as:

(03:30 mark)

Walberg: “I don’t know how to produce an algorithm, but DOGE does. They know how to produce an algorithm that gets to the base, and then is able to go out to the systems, and other lines, and ultimately bring it back to a conclusion that says this is what’s happening. That’s how they were able to find that there are people 200 years of age, allegedly, still getting IRS checks, Social Security checks. They’ve been capable of doing that. I don’t know how to do that.” Someone seated close to the audio recording device, can be heard voicing quiet sounds of approval of Walberg's nonsense throughout the event.

I have not been able to attend any of Walberg's government events in over 3 years, since November 12, 2021. The events are still secretive, and held during working hours. I learned of this event in advance thanks to a Republican who ran for Bedford Township Trustee in 2024, who received an email about the event and posted that publicly online. That posting got shared around and eventually shared with me and my friends. So, this event seemed to be more well-attended than most of Walberg's events. Some of my friends who were able to attend told me afterwards that there were about 100 people in attendance, mostly of retirement age. I still have a regular job during the day.

The thing that upsets me the most about Tim Walberg is all of his Anti-Democracy stuff. That was the #1 item on my "Ten Worsts of Tim Walberg" report last year. The first big public sign of that was in Bedford Township on May 4, 2021, when Walberg plainly said, "I don't support democracy". That quote became the subject of a series of billboards, and a series of claims from Walberg and his allies that he had been taken out of context; yet they never provided any context or their own, and never attempted to suggest that the opposite was true - As if Walberg was a champion of Democracy. So, yesterday Walberg returned to Bedford Township, to spread more of anti-democracy talk, in more cruel and specific terms than last time. Taking a deeper look beyond those words - What does it mean for the state of things when a politician can afford to behave in such an offensive manner towards a room full of constituents, with no concern for losing their votes?:

(46:25 mark)

Walberg’s staffer, Dustin Krasny, read constituent’s written question: “What will SAVE Act’s effect have on women, seniors, and poor voters? Isn’t this repetitive law, and aimed at voter suppression?”

[12 seconds of silence as Walberg presumably pulled out his ID as a prop]

Walberg: “How many ways do I have to show this? How many places do I need to show this? [9 second pause] - Is it suppression of my freedoms? If I were wanting to purchase a six pack, did I have to show this?”

Constituent: “That’s not a passport or a birth certificate.”

[6 second pause]

Walberg: “You’re talking of voting.”

Constituent: “Yeah!”

Walberg: “Showing – showing the fact that you are an American citizen in order to vote.”

Constituent: “But a $200 Passport, some people can’t afford.”

Walberg: “Well, then they shouldn’t be voting.”

[Sudden uproar among audience – exchange continued, I didn't transcribe all of it]

(49:30 mark)

Walberg: “We don’t have floods everywhere. And if we had an organization – governmental organization that got in, and helped those people get up and running again, not like FEMA – We wouldn’t have the lengthy time. But you always some problems. If we have a tornado, which we’ve had in Monroe County, and all of our records get blown away, and now I’ve gotta go – I’m gonna move somewhere else in the country, that’s a different story, but there are a limited number of people that do that. That’s why we need government officials on the ground, helping people who are legal to find that as quickly as possible. Some, if it happens around the election time, they may lose that opportunity. We wanna reduce that. But, just for those few people, to let it continue to go that we have states that don’t require a proof of citizenship for people to vote, that’s wrong."

If drivers’ licenses and other government issued ID were required to have a special designation to denote citizenship status, that would settle the problem cheaply and it would be something that every adult has or can get at no cost to themselves. If that were required the complaint that Democrat constituencies are too mentally deficient to know how to obtain such ID would have Democrat organizations ostentatiously taking the designated dullards to obtain such.

This is a bit of a word salad. It makes, on the whole, more sense than the Camel’s speeches but there are too many words creative order and the sense that it might make is obscured.

A passport card costs $99.

Add another 100 bucks and get a paper passport as a companion piece.

A small part of the total cost.

I just got a renewed passport. It cost over $400 and took over a month to arrive. That total included several extra "fees" extracted during the required in-person interview at a state office. It took a month to get the scheduled interview.

For an extra $99, I could have also purchased a passport card. I did not bother. But you cannot get the passport card without getting the passport.

Anyway, the passport wasn't cheap, and it was not convenient or quick to get one.

Oh, maybe that is the fee for first time passport?

I believe my renewal was $200 for paper and wallet card.

Thanks for the info!

“”Finally on the 44th post, we have someone identify what state we are talking about.”

I agree...Why was it so difficult to properly name the subject at the outset? THINK before or while posting!!!!

My mistake on the spelling. Mark Wahlberg is an actor. His brother also.

Mark Wahlberg - a fine actor certainly better known here than an obscure congressman from MI; also an occasional spokesperson for Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

People who are directly funded by the government shouldn’t vote, it’s a conflict of interest.

Now we're getting somewhere. The Founders and early generations of leaders put many restrictions on voting, to include poll taxes, literacy tests, church membership, land ownership, etc.. Was it because they were patriarchal bigots, or was it because they recognized some fundamental truths that have been lost over time?

I don't know why the "everybody must vote" mantra ever took hold, but a successful republic demands that voters must be motivated, well-informed citizens in order to vote. Things like motor voter bills that automatically register people when they get a drivers license, canvassing blighted neighborhoods with walking around money and free cigarettes; trolling nursing homes to register people who are barely sentinent; voting by mail, ad nauseum, are ruinous to a healthy republic.

It is an INCOME TAX not a redistributive welfare system. The SSDI is probably more akin to a broad base income tax which is legally called an insurance. II fully support a flat tax on ALL income. The sticking point might be capital gains. For that I recommend a capital gain tax lower than the flat rate for those who buy a capital asset like IPO. Resellers of stock acquired from a non original owner are not selling capital assets. I abhor the IRS “refunding” more than one pays in.

Oh, maybe that is the fee for first time passport?

My passport had been expired for a few years, so the fees were higher than for a renewal action. They were still lower than for a first-time passport.

There were additional fees charged to use a state office for the required in-person interview. I paid them because the Post Office around here no longer handles such things, nor do any other Federal offices in this State.

Of course, they rejected my passport photo, even though it was taken at by photography studio that "guaranteed" it would be in correct format. They had a clerk in the state office take a new photo, for an additional fee.

The required in-person interview was the worst part of the process. It was 15 minutes and included a six-page form which had to be filled out in the presence of the interviewer, with no errors and no erasures or corrections permitted.

There were at least four entries where a "First Name, Last Name" entry was required, except that two of them were "Last Name, First Name" format. There were numerous other duplications and inconsistencies in the form which seemed designed to induce errors. I made plenty of them.

If you made any errors, you had to start over with a new form. I finally got it on my fourth try, and I was right at the time limit for the interview. Strictly enforced, that time limit, and I had burned up too much of that time getting a new passport photo. Just barely made it.

The smirking clerk mentioned to me that about 10% of her subjects fail to complete the form within the time limit and are required to schedule a new interview at a much later date.

Registering to vote was so much easier.

Congressman Tim Walberg (R)

Congressman Tim Walberg | (.gov)

Tim Walberg is currently serving his eighth term in Congress as the representative of southern Michigan.

Why should passports cost $200.00? They should be FREE! and NOT a requirement for voting!

The passport book is almost $200, and a card can be obtained for $35 if the website I looked at is correct. I guess either would do. His attitude was so arrogant.

People should not have to pay to vote, regardless if price. That is what he is saying.

They shouldn’t have to own property either

I do not think he knows what he totally knows what he is talking about.

A lot of that in D.C. a trade mark.
