The IRS didn’t accept one of our dependents because I inadvertently transposed 2 digits of her SSN. They didn’t notify us of this error until 3 yrs had passed when I got a bill for over $4000. She was correctly listed as our dependent with the correct SSN for 15 yrs, but they couldn’t overlook this error. Meanwhile, Geithner got a slap on the wrist and no penalties and interest after lying repeatedly on his tax returns for years. In his case the IRS said it was “an innocent mistake.” Makes my blood boil!
