I believe in life in the universe. Totally.
It’s just not our time to know what is really out there. That is for our protection, because we are not discerning creatures for the most part.

What makes you so sure? I don't feel that way at all. I think it is high time we grow up.
We are all potentially deceived, just not in the same way.
My worldview is formed by the idea that man cannot experience his true destiny and place until after the Second Coming of Christ. We are not going to be galivanting around the galaxy before that time. God is not going to allow our civilization to be made permanent until that point in time.
So, my expectation is that anything that happens before the coming of the Messiah is by default deception.
After the Second Coming, I think we will be traveling the universe. We are made lower than the angels, but that is temporary until we get through this.
You might even have a vacation home on a distant planet or be learning things that make our current highest educations be like kindergarten. I fully believe in our destiny as human beings being beyond anything that we can conceive, but there is a time and place for all that.
BTW, Matthew Pines presented a good analytical assessment of Barber (here: "Military Vet Spill Secrets on UFO Retrievals") and also reached the conclusion Barber is credible.
That said, I agree that Ross got out over his skis on this one.

In this arena, being labeled a crackpot is a badge of honor. The bottom line is everyone has to trust their own ‘intuition,’ which we are having confirmed every day is a very legitimate human instinct. Don’t rely on the government or what others tell you, but use your own powers of intellect - and intuition - that the Good Lord gifted you.

Greer is more complex than that.
He has a crackpot personality even when he is telling the entire truth.
He can engage in brilliant analysis one moment and nasty scams the next.
That muddies the waters—much more believable than true crackpots claiming they are the Earth ambassador to the Galactic Federation.
On top of that, his perspective is rarely corroborated by others who follow this subject.

Those events are unrelated, same as for possible ETs.
Thanks for the cite to the Shawn Ryan interview of Greer. In the interview he talks about several technicians and officials that he regrets have passed away since he started his disclosure project over thirty years ago and he himself is no longer that young anymore. The coverup has deprived humanity for a hundred years of ET technology that would have transformed the world, yet here we struggle at the hands of a control freak government that makes us put up with ancient sources of energy, travel and communications. That is a lot of karma to deal with and explain away.
