A Malibu resident is telling his story about how he captured a now-viral photo of a Volkswagen Bus that survived the deadly Palisades Fire.

“Get out of the house, now! There’s a massive fireball heading your way,” Pacific Palisades resident Matt Baker said of a friend calling him to give him this urgent warning as the fire started.

“I stayed in the danger zone far longer than I should have. I was determined to make sure all my neighbors safely evacuated,” Baker said about staying to fight the flames.

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw this story was the color 'blue' and 'DEWs,' yet no mention of DEWs in the article. The similarity between Lahaina and Palisades ought not escape anyone. Beyond DEWs, there seems to be a fascination among people in the intelligence and space communities with using the term blue to describe their projects or programs that escapes me.

I remember that 30 years ago, my Office Manager would not buy blue highlighters because if you used a blue marker, whatever you highlighted would not show up on a copy. Don’t know if new technology has changed that.

Blue pages and blue markers were a thing in script writing too.

I knew a couple of local actors and heard them mention those things and learned.

I used to print out copies of controlled documents in blue ink for the same reason.

That’s an observation I haven’t thought of for many years, but now it comes back to me that the only pen to use for signing documents, which subsequently required copying was the black ink pen. I don’t know the technology in DEWs, but it may operate with lasers and there may be something unique about the light spectrum and the color blue.

It was common in the graphic arts field years ago to only use blue pencil on artwork borders, etc, for printing because Kodak Graphic Arts film didn’t register blue.

Notice the blue plastic garbage cans to the left of the VW in the picture also are not melted.

Only thing that bothers me about this story is that the VW roof is white - looks to me like only the sides are blue.

How that works from airborne or satellite DEW is a mystery.

It’s a miracle!! We should build a shrine for the sacred blue bus. And pray for the Lady of the Blue VW bus. As soon as it is built I will make my first pilgrimage.

I agree. There is much I don’t understand about these weapons. I know they must create extreme heat on most surfaces, but the color blue neutralize the ray’s intensity somehow. Perhaps, the larger surface of blue on the bus kept the heat down so the bus did not ignite.

If I remember my science, blue absorbs all colors but reflect blue. While reflects all colors.

so...................the white roof.

So am I to understand the bus was parked, and was unaffected, virtually untouched, as the fire was raging, directly in front of the apartment complex that was completely destroyed?

I call BS

Now I love me a good VW bus as much as the next guy (or gal), but I don't see how this is possible.. With all the traffic, the fire trucks, the mess, the hoses, the embers, and INTENSE HEAT there was no damage?

Likely the bus was moved back after the fire to make the storyline... Would be more likely..But not near as fun....

I still don’t know HOW the VW escaped being burned if it was parked there DURING the fire. I thought “true story” would give more details instead the replies wandered off the topic.

I’m with you....that was my question when a thread was posted last week regarding the picture from a different angle. This thread/article gives no details on WHY the VW bus was untouched by the fire!!

“True story” doesn’t give us answers! I think we’re alone on this!

No, the blue color is not important. It’s the blue frequency that matters. That freq in relation to the dew laser frequency.

Think similar with green screens.
