The popular video app, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, is currently scheduled to be banned nationwide on January 19th, 2025, just one day before Donald Trump takes office.
However, it has now filed a petition to the Supreme Court in a last ditch attempt to try and save its place in the valuable American media market after all its other legal attempts fell on deaf ears.
“The Act will shutter one of America’s most popular speech platforms the day before a presidential inauguration,” TikTok wrote in its petition.

So? You actually think it will stop at TikTok? You don’t think this law won’t be used by the government to extort other domains so they can control content? This is just the beginning of the end of the internet.
I would agree except theres one reason im not... the owner... China... I’m just looking the other way on this one.
I think the Supreme Court needs to weigh in.
Everyone who wants tik tok has it already. This legislation only prohibits from being offer it Apple app store and Google Play store in the US. Nothing a good VPN cannot fix.
Have you read the bill and how it is worded? Read it very slowly and let the legal words sink in. It is not just TikTok or foreign owned apps, domains, or servers. It is a Trojan horse on steroids that they could twist against anyone they want...
If It was just TikTok I wouldn’t be worried. But it is not...
“Everyone who wants tik tok has it already. This legislation only prohibits from being offer it Apple app store and Google Play store in the US. Nothing a good VPN cannot fix.”
Then there is no reason for it. Read it, it is not just TikTok...
Absolutely. Let's ban X next. And then after that, FR.
According to the bill, the government can do that.
They probably will. I can't see them ignoring this. It's too big of a case for them.
“According to the bill, the government can do that.”
Absolutely. They use the words “terrorist” and “adversaries”. Those are very broad brushes that could be twisted to apply to just about any anti-poltitically correct app, domain, or server. The potential for extortion is off the charts. Trump is not going to be there forever. And this will in no time at all be pointed at “terrorist” Christians and conservatives because they are considered “adversaries” of our country.
Ludicrous anti-China hysteria on both sides. This is a free speech issue. The burden of proof is on the conspiracy theorists obsessed with peddling baseless foreign country brainwashing schemes.
Whatever happened to that guy, who owns Telegram, after he was detained in France? Is he free again or is he still being held?
I'm preparing for the upcoming Newsom Administration.
Trump bought us four years. Maybe.
I think he’s free for now. His charges carry up to 10 years in the slammer.
“I’m preparing for the upcoming Newsom Administration.
Trump bought us four years. Maybe.”
That is exactly what I see too.
I hope Trump can have some influence with that situation.
If they were owned by China, they’d have to sell to an American company. Neither are so it’s not nearly like TicTok. By the way, the company had more than two hundred days to see and didn’t so screw them.
See \sell
He can encourage the Supreme Court to take up the case.
Our Republicans in Congress are useless. They're paid off by the Deep State.
Didn’t mean to mislead you there, I was replying to Ducttape’s mention of Telegram. It is a foreign legal issue but maybe he can have some positive influence to get the guy out of trouble.
