The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has confirmed that radioactive material was lost in transit earlier this month, heightening fears about public safety and sparking theories about mysterious drone activity in New Jersey.
Officer Lew, a prominent political commentator, highlighted the NRC’s event report during a review of regulatory alerts.
“While looking at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission Alerts. I can confirm that there is radioactive material that has gone missing on Dec 2nd, 2024 out of New Jersey. This might be the reason for the drones… just speculation at this point,” he wrote.
The missing material, identified as a Ge-68 pin source manufactured by Eckert & Ziegler, was reported lost by its licensee on December 3, 2024. Shipped for disposal, the container arrived at its destination severely damaged and empty.
According to the NRC’s report, the radioactive source, while classified as “Less than IAEA Category 3,” still poses potential risks if mishandled or exposed for prolonged periods.

The following information was provided by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) via email:
“The licensee reported to NJDEP on December 3, 2024, that a Ge-68 pin source that they sent for disposal has been lost in transit on December 2, 2024. The source is a Eckert & Ziegler model HEGL-0132, with current approximate activity of 0.267 mCi. The shipping container arrived at its destination damaged and empty. The licensee has filed a claim with the shipper. If the source is not located within the 30 days, the licensee will follow-up with a full written report to include root cause(s) and corrective actions.
“This event is reportable under 10 CFR 20.2201(a)(1)(ii).”

Sources that are “Less than IAEA Category 3 sources,” are either sources that are very unlikely to cause permanent injury to individuals or contain a very small amount of radioactive material that would not cause any permanent injury. Some of these sources, such as moisture density gauges or thickness gauges that are Category 4, the amount of unshielded radioactive material, if not safely managed or securely protected, could possibly – although it is unlikely – temporarily injure someone who handled it or were otherwise in contact with it, or who were close to it for a period of many weeks.

Good Grief ... Stop Lying and TELL US!!! They could have said this in a media offering when it happened, describing what the “box” (or whatever it was) looked like and posting a reward while telling everyone to stay away from something of that description but reporting its whereabouts. For people who had doubts about the government and secrecy, this confirms every conspiracy theory that could ever be made up. They would have ginned up the same panic by announcing it when it got lost compared to today’s panic. The difference is WE may have found it by now and all this would have gone away sooner and we “MIGHT” have some confidence in the government. Right now, they have proven they HIDE STUFF!
The nuke material went missing on December 2nd in New Jersey but the drone sightings began in NJ/NY on November 18th and the drones have been spotted almost every night since then. In additions, drones have been reported in Massachusetts, Virginia, Ohio, California, Nevada, and the UK, among other places, none of which are contiguous with NJ/NY:

This is waste from medical equipment and not extremely dangerous.
You don’t want kids or dummies to get ahold of it.

If it’s that harmless, why would anyone break into a train car and steal it? I’m sceptical of anything the current government tells us.

(1) The producer - Eckert & Ziegler - is a German company that manufactures medical testing devices. https://medical.ezag.com/en/
(2) The parent isotope 68Ge has a 271 day half life. Medical devices made with it need to be changed out regularly. It’s decay isotope Ge-68 has a very low half-life: 68 minutes according to WikiPedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallium-68_generator.
Basically, the decay isotope is used for medical scanning stuff. I don’t know anything about the specifid parent or decay isotopes but from everything I’m reading the radioactivity is low, the danger from a dirty bomb or any other type of release is really really really low. This looks like more clickbait catastrophism from Gateway Pundit.
OTOH, the damage to the railcar transporting this means it’s impossible to rule out that the shipment was actually something else that was stolen and the world will end soon. But from the facts we have, this is a nothingburger.
What grade of refinement and enrichment?
Appears to be low level. Cat 3 I have heard. You would have to sleep with it for weeks for it to be harmful. Question? Why take it, then?
Why this intensive search for it, then, if that’s what these drones are about? Smoke alarms have a radioactive component, too.
The exposure limit for occupational radiation exposure is 5000 mR/yr...same as 0.05 sieverts (Sv) or 5Rem...
I wouldn't want this baby in my pocket. This rough estimate is for a "point" source...The missing item is described as a "pin" source. I'm old and rusty...corrections welcome...
