The Biden administration has been an unmitigated disaster since day one, with an endless list of extreme failures. Its horrific handling of the COVID-19 pandemic caused immense harm with zero benefits.
The Afghanistan withdrawal was a nightmare. Its incompetent handling of the economy led to runaway inflation and mass layoffs. It's been a catastrophe from start to finish, which is why Biden's vice president lost so soundly in the 2024 election.
But with just more than a month to go for one of the worst administrations in US history, those "in charge" aren't done making dumb decisions yet.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that the Biden administration is "expected in the coming days to grant California and 11 other states permission to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered cars after 2035."

It all makes sense once you understand that the US feral government hates us and want us all to die of starvation or biological weapons or anything else that works.
What Biden does Trump will undo.
Only Congress can do this. California can try but their authority will get revoked on January 20.

Perhaps a better strategy is to give them what they want. Ban the use of gas or diesel powered vehicles on interstate highways in those states that enact bans, effective immediately; no trucks carrying goods, no cars full of tourists...

There will be unintend of consequences to this sort of thing.
For example, this can hurt the tourist business very badly. How many tourists from other states drive to Disneyland or the beaches? How many will still visit if they can’t drive their car to California?
They are saying that they plan to ban the sale of new internal combustion engine vehicles. But that’s just a transitional step on the way to banning them entirely.
What about so much overseas imports which come through California ports, and then goods get loaded on to diesel trucks for delivery elsewhere? Will this interrupt our overseas supply chains?
Have we NO congress-critters representing US??
Or do we let the “king” decide everything for us???
Pointless. Any executive order from Biden can be countermanded by Trump on day 1.
Biden (Pedo and Jillary) go first.

If you think the people running the government are taking input from Jill Biden, I really don’t know what to say.

That should clue you that it is sarcasm, but I guess some people need a two-by-four to the side of the head to recognize the obvious.
Anything Biden does without Legislation can be undone on day one with the stroke of a pen.
I hope the immediately after taking the oath that Trump has a desk carried out with a stack of EOs that he can sign right there.
Biden like most lawyers is an actor, he knows what he’s doing.
