The arrest of Luigi Mangione in connection with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO has left friends, family, and acquaintances grappling with shock and disbelief.
As investigators piece together the timeline leading to his arrest, new details have emerged about his life in the months preceding his disappearance and alleged crime.
Mangione, a 28-year-old former computer science student from Maryland. He was described by those who knew him as intelligent, athletic, and socially well-adjusted.
However, the trajectory of his life appeared to change drastically earlier this year following back surgery to address chronic pain caused by a pinched nerve, far-left HuffPost reported.
Mangione spent six months in 2022 living at Surfbreak, a co-living community near Honolulu’s Ala Moana Beach Park.
R.J. Martin, the founder of Surfbreak, described him as an articulate and engaged community member who started a book club for residents in an interview with Honolulu Civil Beat.
However, Martin noted that Mangione was plagued by debilitating back pain stemming from a misaligned vertebrae that pinched his spinal cord. The injury reportedly halted his surfing activities and strained his romantic life.

What’s even more interesting is the narrative being established. Smart intelligent man has everything going for them, has a back problem, mean insurance agency screws him. Gosh who wouldn’t murder someone over something like that? He’s lucky the exec wasn’t black he’d be a MAGA supporting racist by now.
Do we all believe this story?
Since it was decided by the Internet that he was killed because of insurance, that we have to seek and establish that the attacker has health issues?
The narrative is very buffaloed. I hope we don’t fall for this tactic. The story may be true - but I’m not willing to be so easily convinced.

Or seemingly preventing his body building routine. I want to know whether the 50 grand reward has been paid out to the lowly, hard working, alert McD employee. Additionally, where were the friends and relatives who failed to report this guy to authorities?
Or his aim.
I know a lot of people with “back injuries”. None of them ever murdered a CEO because of it.
Or his jogging.
There will be all sorts of stories that surface about this guy.
There was one last night from someone who knew him in high school that said he was antisocial.
If the guy had some type of debilitating spinal injury he probably is pissed at the world. He can’t surf and he can’t get laid. He was a homeless bum living in a park in Honolulu.
There have also been a lot of highly intelligent people who do not fit into society. Many are on the spectrum. Some become people like Elon Musk. Some become the Unibomber. This guy became a Unibomber wanta be. We are fortunate he got caught before he killed more people that were innocent.
We once had UHC coverage some yrs ago. As I recall it included chiropractic care. Chiropractic care can sometimes resolve back pain problems.
What he’s done now has stuck him with Tylenol treatments far into the future.
I heard on the radio this am that it was actually a McDs male customer that told the McDs employee to call the police.
The McDs customer recognized the guy from the pictures posted on the internet by the NYPD BOLO.
So, there may be a couple of people claiming the reward.

IOW, A) he took up surfing after his 'debilitating' back pain started, or B) his beach-bum surfing caused it.
The media has two spins -- one, the murdered man denied claims to millions of deserving ailing people, and two, the murderer has really bad back pain and was driven to kill this claim-denier. The third spin will be later -- he was found guilty but was a lone wolf and unrelated to his leftist manifesto line items.
I’m a regular listener to WCBM, the conservative talk radio station his family owns. I haven’t listened today though. I can’t imagine how they can walk this tightrope of discussing the news and yet, not make too many statements since they likely know the shooter.
Nono Mangione, the State Delegate is one of the best most outspoken conservatives in the State House.

Now the story is “my back hurts, I need to shoot someone.”
His parents were probably sending him money so he could live his dream. Being a surfer bum.
I do not know if this is park right next to Waikiki Beach. I stayed in the Outrigger Reef hotel right near that park. We were warned by the hotel staff to stay away from the beach and that park. At the time there were about 500 homeless people living there. This was prior to covid. Six or seven years ago.
I thought at the time IF you were going to be homeless, this was not a bad place to be. The temperature is 70-85 everyday of the year.
I recall it from years ago, even then it was rife with homeless which as a deep Blue state they encourage it. We stayed at the Moana Surfrider next to the Outrigger.
