Actually it is accurate unless, of course he had been tried in a California court. The guy was so inept he left buckets of evidence.

“He never had a chance,” is not necessarily sympathetic. It could be derision at the stupidity and clumsiness in the perpetration of the crime. But then, consider the source. It was probably an attempt at empathy with the immigrante pobre.

There was overwhelming evidence. Laken’s DNA was found on his clothes, and his DNA was found on hers. Plus the surveillance data from several sources established the timeline of the crime down to the second.
He decided at the last minute to roll the dice with a bench trial. The jury was ready. It was his choice completely.

I didn’t read the article, but it was reported that they changed the headline...
“The initial headline to the opinion piece, written by legal analyst Danny Cevallos, was “Laken Riley’s Killer Never Stood a Chance.” That was altered on Friday to “The Guilt of Laken Riley’s Killer Was Never in Doubt.”

He chose the bench trial to keep the DP off the table after the soros prosecuter lost her job.
Georgia law doesn’t allow the DP in bench trials, only in jury trials.

He chose the bench trial to keep the DP off the table after the soros prosecuter lost her job. Oh, right. I heard that after I watched a video about the trial. They didn't mention that little fun fact during that video.
So his choice to go with a bench trial wasn't because he thought the judge would be more merciful than a jury would. It was just a play to keep breathing longer.
Personally, I think spending the rest of your days in a concrete box the size of a closet is worse than the DP.

Years ago we were at a car show in daBronx. I met an NYPD Detective who restored a couple of the big old Plymouth Furys they used in the late 60's. He told me that the so called "criminal mastermind" type is very rare. Typically a cop may run into that sort of person once in their career. Other than a few top mob bosses, and even most of them aren't too bright, criminals are insanely STUPID. For a good laugh check out

As long as he’s breathing there is always the chance of being deported in 10-15 years.
