Donald Trump Jr. Stands Firmly Behind AG Nominee Pam Bondi as Controversial Jeb Bush Endorsement Video Sparks Outrage

The political landscape erupted Thursday evening as President Donald Trump announced Pam Bondi, former Attorney General of Florida and a staunch Trump ally, as his nominee for the next Attorney General of the United States.

Bondi’s nomination follows Rep. Matt Gaetz’s withdrawal, a decision that shocked many in the conservative base.

In his official statement, President Trump lauded Bondi’s impressive record as a prosecutor and her leadership as Florida’s first female Attorney General:

“I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families.

Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country. She did such an incredible job, that I asked her to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first Term — We saved many lives!

For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans – Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!”

Former Congressman Matt Gaetz, who had initially been chosen for the AG role, publicly endorsed Bondi’s nomination, calling her a “stellar selection.”

In a statement, Gaetz said, “Pam Bondi is a stellar selection by President Trump for Attorney General. Pam and I worked closely together when she was Florida’s Attorney General and I chaired Criminal Justice in the state house. She’s a proven litigator, an inspiring leader and a champion for all Americans. She will bring the needed reforms to DOJ.”

Despite Bondi’s proven loyalty to Trump, a resurfaced video from the 2016 GOP primaries has ignited controversy among the conservative base. The video shows Bondi endorsing Jeb Bush over Trump during the contentious Republican primary—a choice that many MAGA supporters view as a betrayal.

Social media exploded with backlash, with some questioning whether Bondi’s past allegiance to Bush makes her fit for the role of Attorney General in a Trump-led administration.

Donald Trump Jr. immediately came to Bondi’s defense, reminding critics of her steadfast loyalty to President Trump since his rise to power.

“In all fairness, I think my family and I may have been some of the only people who supported Donald Trump in the 2016 GOP primary. Once he broke through the lies and stereotypes and proved to be a populist leader, that all changed. Pam Bondi was one of his earliest supporters!”

Bondi has been an unwavering Trump supporter for years. During Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2020, Bondi dismantled the Democrats’ case by exposing the Biden-Burisma scandal.

Her track record of fighting for Trump’s vision and values, coupled with her experience as Florida’s Attorney General, positions her as a formidable candidate to lead the Department of Justice into a new era. Elon: The Cheapest Way To Heat Your House This Winter

The Rats always fire the US Attorneys on day 1. The GOP not so much.

She could have been either back in 2012. I want to also see what she has done since then.

If you are referring to Trump thinking women with that look are accomplished, I am correct. Hope Hicks is another... smoking hot and with that “look”, so he thought as a 29 year old model, she would be a great advisor on strategic messaging ...or something.

It’s his weakness.

For me, she is just too pretty and young, but does she have the chops to reform the DJJ?

She is young to me but SHE IS 59! Not a "Spring Chicken"...

I’m ok with SG being pro-vax, even if never changed. My big problem is her promotion of censorship on Facebook and such, praising Zuckerberg even. That’s an awful instinct, and of course that wasn’t long ago. Horrible pick for SG.

Clearly you don’t live in Florida. She’s tough and will clean up the justice department. As far as 2016 goes? Get over it. Trump has. Grown ups typically do.

It doesn’t make any difference that she preferred Jeb Bush over Trump in 2016. Busy isn’t part of the current political landscape. Even if she still preferred him over Trump, what matters is that she supports Trump in today’s situation.

"People pearl clutch on FR so much!
Indeed!

I think far too many FR readers have little more to do than to hyperventilate at each new announcement, quick to criticize each nominee.

These "pearl clutchers," an apt description, seem to rotate from thread to thread, making reading the commentary largely an exercize in futility.

I’m in FL and have voted for her previously. I’m cautiously optimistic on the Bondi pick.

Ditto all. I worked in state govt response during the ‘04-‘05 hurricane seasons and Jeb was solid as a Gov (awful as a candidate as Pres, true). Let Trump be Trump and let it play out. Is he perfect, no, but none of us are and he’s earned the space to make these decisions and knows a heck of a lot more than we do.
