Who Is Switching Political Parties in California?
PPIC ^

Posted on 10/13/2024 8:34:24 PM PDT by pigeoninthepark

California has recently experienced a subtle yet significant shift in its political landscape. Recent voter registration data reveals a reddening of the Golden State, with Republican registration increasing compared to the 2022 election, while both Democratic and No Party Preference—or independent—registrations have declined.

This redder tinge is largely driven by voters switching from other parties to Republican, and it marks a departure from the broader pattern of independent voters moving to Democratic registration. A closer look reveals some surprising trends, particularly among core Democratic constituencies such as Latinos, Blacks, and young people. (See our interactive feature for detailed registration data by geography.)

On the Republican side, gains have spanned all races, ethnicities, and age groups, but with notable variations. Latino voters have switched to the Republican Party at much higher rates while Black voters have more often moved to minor parties as well as to Republican. And older Californians have switched somewhat less overall—and more often from independent alone.

Even greater variation has occurred on the Democratic side. Despite a reputation as anchors of the Democratic coalition, more Black and Latino voters have switched from the Democratic Party than have other groups. The Democrats have also experienced a net loss of Asian American and white voters. Young voters, also traditionally central to the Democratic coalition, have tended to switch away from the Democratic Party.

They won’t give up CA easily; they have their nefarious tendrils spread everywhere.

They use ballot harvesting to maintain their dominance.

Ballot harvesting can be a two way street in California.

The GOP had some successes in California in 2022 doing just that.

Got to beat the RATS at their own game.

I guess Harris has picked up the Sasquatch voter base.

Although kali seems like a lost cause. A rightward shift in Kali, the state that gave us Reagan and Nixon would be a death blow to the dims.

Just like Fla and Texas are must wins for republicans, if kali falls there is no path to victory for dims.

However unlikely the thought is pleasing

I want republicans to ballot harvest in every state where it’s legal. I don’t know why they don’t use the laws that are allowed. Republicans always run elections with one arm tied behind their back. We should have mega church souls to the polls every eligible Sunday. Give them a picnic if it helps. I don’t care. Republicans need to smarten up.

Demographics in CA are white minority, with the majority being latino or asian. These groups, in some ways the black population as well, have traditional elements that reject the Godlessness of the modern democrat party. This can be capitalized upon, and a shift to Republican could, in theory, take place. Wouldn’t that be something?

I lived in California for seventeen years; MANY years ago.

Back then, California was redder than Santa Claus’s suit.

The good old days.

Seeing as how illegal aliens are counted in the census, California should have five fewer congressional districts and therefore five fewer electoral votes. That factoid has irritated me for a number of election cycles.

I’ve heard it said that the reason the GOP controls Congress is because a handful of seats in California and New York State were flipped from “D” to “R” in the 2022 midterms.

With 52 congressional districts, the GOP is wise to try and peel away some of those seats from the democrats.

I remember voting in the 1980 presidential election in California.

The night before the election, the media claimed the election between Carter and Reagan was “too close to call.”
On election day, the media called the race for Reagan at 6:00 PM Eastern time, which was 3:00 PM Pacific time.

I was young, and thrilled when I heard that news. My family hadn’t even gone to the polls yet, but off we went. I walked into the polling place at a local school in Santa Barbara with my relatives; I had a big smile on my face and I felt like I was walking on air when I walked into that polling place.

The woman behind the table was complaining about the media calling the race so soon, but I said nothing; I just smiled at her.

We used the butterfly type ballot. Reagan won, I think, 44 states in 1980. It was great.

1980 was my first election and I proudly voted for Ronald Reagan.

“Demographics in CA are white minority”

I guess you haven’t seen Texas recently, huh?
